Minors Thread 4-16, 17
We didn't have one for 4-15, and that's too bad because Erlin and Olt did notable things.
But we will definitely have one for 4-16, because that's a hell of a lot of pitchers for one day on the farm:
HIC-6:00- Grimm
MYR-5:00- Loux
FRS-2-DH- Brig/MDLS
RRE-6:00- Scheppers
********
HIC-4:00- Melo
MYR-1:00- Ross
FRS-4:00- Pimentel
RRE-2:00- McClung
Thanks as always for the good work that Shroom does here. And since I haven't hit my word limit, I'll just say that Mike Bianucci seems different this year. Let's hope that sticks around.

now remember
this kid was considered decent coming out of the draft, with pretty prodigious power.
He’s relatively old (turns 25 this summer) but if he continues this whole new “contact” thing without sacrificing the power, he could have some value.
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
A boy can dream.
If his cut to his K rate turns out to be real, I wouldn’t doubt he’d have comparable value to Reed/Roark/Tatusko, which means he can tie in to getting a useful Major League rental (go ahead and makes cracks about Cantu and Guzman being ‘useful’).

Yay for great days of pitchings
Starts at 1230 with our Dutch Oven and then a brilliant day of some of our older Pitching Prospects
"I’d love to walk in and hug everybody every day, but that’s not critical to us winning." The JeDi
Both A-ball games are rainy today. We'll be lucky to get them in.
And the Frisco DH is gonna be really windy w/temp in the 50s. brrr
Also, Rangermad found an Olt Q&A over in the GDT – http://7traintoshea.com/?p=5163&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter – which I’m now gonna go read.
your weather update
HIC looks good, if the field is dry they should be able to play.
MYR still looks iffy. Rain is moving away now, 3 hours before the game – so, can the field dry out enough to play tonight. And will the rain stay away?
FRS is playing in windy mid-40s conditions. You aren’t in the Caribe anymore, niños.
RRE is expecting partly awesome Tanner with high-heat temps under a plus-plus Scheppers sky.
weird...
Dallas is like LA today. What I imagine LA to be like, I mean.

scottrlucas A little bird tells me RHP Andres Perez-Lobo (2010 23rd rounder) is in Hickory, which is updating its rosters leisurely if at all thus far.
Jose Ruiz
He didn’t look that great in ST, and the on-site eyes didn’t think much of him beyond raw power, IIRC, but he’s off to a surprising start with Frisco – .438/.550/.438 – 7 singles, no xbh’s, 4 BBs, 2 Ks. Weirdness.

Yeah, I just saw that.
He’s a great player, but I’d be careful celebrating it. That kid sounds like trouble to me.

I hadn't heard about any trouble
He was injured last year, but his grades and behavior have been fine as far as I know. What kind of trouble?
Street agents/handlers.
I’m actually really surprised he committed this early, especially considering everything he’s been quoted as saying about Auburn. It’s a huge coup for A&M, I’m not trying to downplay the player, just saying that the rumors about handlers have been very, very strong.

I feel like I've heard so many kids tied to street agents this year
I kind of take it with a grain of salt at this point. I think most of the time its sour grapes from teams that don’t land the kid, and when it is valid, well, Patrick Peterson was a pretty good player for LSU.
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
That's why I said that it doesn't take away from the greatness of the recruits themselves.
It could be nothing, but with what I think will happen with Lyles, it could be something. Some schools just aren’t willing to take the risks associated with these guys; some say that they’ve not done anything wrong and that they’re not going to let some hanger-on dictate what they do. It’s up to the school, obviously.

I did
and I’m pretty pumped, although I wonder if we lose Knight because of Davis. Still, we had to land a top tier RB, and with Gray rumored to be UT or TCU bound, we needed Williams. These kids have to realize that A&M will field an incredible o-line for the foreseeable future.
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
Whoop!
nice news after losing out on Malcom Brown… Trey Williams is the top dude for sure. Both may be national top 100 guys. Williams has incredible cutting ability and explosiveness, looks like a mini Cyrus Gray but with higher top end speed possibly.

?
Really? We have two great RBs right now (maybe the best one-two punch in the country), one who rushed for 100 yards in 7 straight games. When the hell is the last time a texas RB did that?
Not like texas has had plenty of their own… Oh and what about those top 5 star recruits on a 5-7 team last year? Come on, you could say that about any school.

If it was 10-0 or 6-0, I was going to ask why Bauer was out there throwing 130 pitches.

thats the biggest ? but i have seen some think he has enough of a third pitch(change)
to be a starter
from another site(just one start so take it for what it’s worth)
1. Tall with projection remaining
2. Over the top arm slot; weird looking, short arm action on the back end of his wind-up
3. Straight fastball with good velocity; arm slot puts the pitch on a downward plane
4. Gonzaga hitters couldn’t do much with the pitch, behind it often, other times hitting on the ground
5. Hard 12-6 downer curve ball; can throw for strikes and use as a chase pitch
6. Showed a couple harder breaking balls with less vertical and a bit of horizontal break (slider?)
7. Good arm action on change-up: has arm side run and drop; swing and miss pitch
8. Confidence on the mound; attacks hitters and works quickly
9. Very athletic and fields position extremely well
10. Good control and solid command throughout the outing; efficient outing
threw really well against Baylor last night…runs it up to 99 usually sitting 94-96
I wouldn't draw too much from his performance against Baylor.
Our offense isn’t very good and nobody plays small ball like Steve Smith.

well it's not the 27 yanks but
muncy, pinckard, ludy and towey aren’t complete garbage…
was sitting mid 90s most of the night..would not necessarily take him at 33 though but hell, he might be gone by then. main thing though is Stilson just started pitching a couple of yrs ago…
Stilson faced off Friday with a former high-school teammate, Josh Turley. The starting pitchers attended Texarkana’s Texas High. Stilson, a likely first-round draft selection this summer, primarily played shortstop at Texas High.
"He just figured (pitching) out," Turley said of his close friend. "Some people just do that later on. They figure out how to pitch and he’s throwing really hard and really well. He had a good arm in high school, but it was nothing like it is now."
Yea, he definitely is a hard thrower
Good Curve too. I’d be down with taking him if he fell to us, he’s got the kind of live arm we generally love aquiring

Sure.
You can move guys that can hit but can’t field to 1B from all over the place.
I would say COF is right up there in terms of our holes. I don’t know which legit prospects we have that project for the kind of power COF requires. Maybe Skole and Hoying?

I'm high on Hoying
I like the adjustments he made last season after a slow start, and the fact that it was Hoying who approached the team about making changes in his swing. Proactive, coachable, and showing some serious bat. Former SS who projects to be a good defender in a corner OF spot with a solid arm.

we could use another solid corner OF prospect

I wouldn't move Ogando out of the roto
unless he completely implodes or in case you want to limit his innings and the BP needs help. Of course him moving back to the BP to limit his innings is contingent upon his performance.
