Neftali Feliz to the disabled list
Neftali Feliz is going to the disabled list, ain't that about a bitch.
Edit: Texas Rangers' closer Neftali Feliz is going on the 15 day disabled list due to right shoulder inflammation. Speculation arose about Ron Washington's use of Feliz (or lack thereof) in recent games, and it appears the cause of the situation was Feliz having shoulder issues.
Much wailing and gnashing of teeth will ensue. Is Darren O'Day going to keep sucking? Will our primary 9th inning options be Methuselah and the old man from New Year's cartoons? Is the highest and best use of Julio Borbon as a human sacrifice to avert these tragedies in the future? Josey's money is on "yes."
I suppose now we know that Chris Davis can continue to sit on the bench, being snubbed by his teammates after Gritty McGritterson goes dong, for at least a short while longer as Cody Eppley joins the big club. Yay!

So....should I be scared of this inflammation?
The injury sounds generic but it does include the word “shoulder”

grain of salt
but according the Grant’s last tweet it’s merely cautionary and the rangers are confident he’ll be back after 15 days
inflammation can cause fissures, fissures can get bad enough to need surgery
that’s my understanding anyway

well, we've been staying how closers aren't all that important, guess we'll see.

I'm not sure it does.

It goes beyond this, though.

It depends on if the reference was to a strict "closers aren't all that important" point or if it was a reference to the "closers have some value, but not any more than even a mediocre starter" discussions.

They're not all that important over 162 games, at least not over the next best guy in most situations.
This is likely to make a small difference on the season, the small difference will just come over a very short period of time and thus look larger.
If indeed a difference is made.
It will hopefully be too short of a sample to say anything definitive about the importance of a super awesome closer,
but with regard to the closer-importance debate that we had about the Rangers in the offseason, here we’re not gaining a potentially-awesome starter in the trade. We’re just losing out on a talented pitcher, period.
They're going to run those two old ass men out there aren't they?

I take offense at the use of the phrase “Old Ass Men”

Now we have the crucible of examination for whether the FO’s concerns over bullpen depth were a justifiable basis for moving Feliz back to the pen.

This’ll cost us less than one win (as long as the injury isn’t worse than what they are saying)

Widely misused idiom
"I have thought a lot about why people get so hostile online, and I have come to believe it is primarily because we live in a society with a hypertrophied sense of justice and an atrophied sense of humility and charity, to put the matter in terms of the classic virtues." --Alan Jacobs
Is it?
I guess I haven’t noticed — in most of the instances I’ve seen it, it’s been used correctly.
Garoon: Banned on LSB. Available Only Via Supplement.
I see it used where the context makes it clear that whatever move has been referred to as a "shot across the bow" is plainly a "bluff."
"I have thought a lot about why people get so hostile online, and I have come to believe it is primarily because we live in a society with a hypertrophied sense of justice and an atrophied sense of humility and charity, to put the matter in terms of the classic virtues." --Alan Jacobs
Really? Huh.
Grant’s (mis)using it in yet another way, then…
Garoon: Banned on LSB. Available Only Via Supplement.
I see how it would be misuse if it was used with the itention of meaning bluff,
but now it is my goal for the day to figure out a good way to make a reference to something being both a warning shot and a bluff.

We need a backup CF, not a 3rd string 1B or 3B.
I have mad irrational love for Davis as well
and agree that he doesn’t belong in the majors right now. If one of the two Mikes, Moreland, or Beltre were out for some reason, then it would make sense. For now, bring up Chavez or Gentry instead of making Murphy play center.
Davis has a 1.530 OPS against AAA pitchers this season, and has a career OPS of .950 against AAA pitchers
He is a great platoon player against AAA pitchers, and it is a brilliant move to put him in the lineup today.
Yeah,
eventually the league will be full of guys that Davis crushed in the minors. Then he will rock, right?
Where can I go to find out how many times...
a 1st baseman has batted 9th this year?
Well then... I would like to see this Jeff Sullivan pornagraphy.

Here's my ideal situation...
Wash decides to go with a bullpen-by-situation and essentially does what we’ve been asking; put in the correct guy in the situation that is warranted, regardless of the inning. Everyone starts getting a save here and there, the output is better (we think it would be, anyway) and Wash starts to believe in this thing.
Why have only one guy racking up the super sweet stat that is a save when 5 guys could be getting in on that action? He’ll remember this come next year and when Feliz moves to the rotation, he no longer has a closer and manages the bullpen in this new and revolutionary way.
Baseball is changed forever and it is all on that one day that Neftali Feliz hurt his shoulder and that baseball genius Ron Washington dared to take a chance on an unconventional method.
