Around SBN: 7 Important Questions About The Heat Vs. Celtics Series

Saturday a.m. Rangers stuff

I'm still a bit traumatized over Elvis Andrus having left the game last night with a left wrist injury.  Shortstop is the one position where the Rangers don't really have anyone who could fill in for a significant length of time -- Andres Blanco is fine as utility infielder, but I don't think you want him starting for several weeks in a row, and there's not really anyone in the organization who could replace Blanco in that UIF role.

Jeff Wilson says in his game story, which focuses on Matt Harrison's terrific outing, that the Rangers don't think Andrus will have to go on the disabled list.

T.R. Sullivan's game story talks about Harrison's strong start and the home runs the Rangers used to break open the game.

Evan Grant has his reactions to an 8-1 Rangers win.

Richard Durrett has his post-game notes at the ESPN Dallas blog.

Grant has a piece behind the paywall on Harrison's progress as a pitcher.

Bryan Dolgin has updates on five pitchers coming back from injury who the Rangers are hoping will be able to contribute in the near future.

The S-T's notes include stuff on Jon Daniels' trip to Japan, Josh Hamilton's contact lenses, and updates on rehabbing Rangers.

Joe Wieland, the Rangers 4th round draft pick in the 2008 draft, has been promoted from high-A Myrtle Beach to AA Frisco, and will take the mound as the RoughRiders' starting pitcher on Monday.

Jennifer Floyd Engel has a column talking about Dirk Nowitzki throwing out the first pitch, and says the Ranger bullpen needs to be better and Jon Daniels needs to go trade for bullpen help.

I'd like to see JFE talk about Santo Perez.

It would probably be about as informed and intelligent of an article as she’s ever written.

Rock the J2, JD!

that implies she

could find anything out about the kid. Do you think research is a part of her vocabulary?

by Hull Fan on Jun 25, 2011 9:20 AM CDT up reply actions

That's pretty much what I meant. Her current articles and one on Santo would have about the same level of substance/research.

Seriously, I’m guessing that since Santo is about 3 years older than he first claimed, folks are thinking his projection is limilted — less than David Perez, for example — but it might be that his present arsenal is similar to DP, except maybe he can’t quite dial his fastball up to 95-96.

How on Earth

did the Rangers get forced into a day game in late June? Don’t they have an exemption from the mlb due to weather concerns?

FOX?

They do...

But this will be the national game for MLB on Fox, so it had to be during the Fox exclusive window (I think this is one of Fox’s “we pick what game we like” weeks but I’m not sure). Ergo, the game got moved back.

by Wes M on Jun 25, 2011 9:45 AM CDT up reply actions

If you mean Sunday's time change

Which, you probably do, since I just refreshed my memory and realized it’s tomorrow’s game that got moved, then I dunno. Maybe the Mets TV channel got annoyed by being an evening game on Sunday.

by Wes M on Jun 25, 2011 9:47 AM CDT up reply actions

It's because of ESPN.

They don’t want their Sunday night game to lose part of the NYC market if Rangers/Mets play in the evening.

It's the curse of the cracker ass commercials

Think about it: almost everybody singled out for one of those hillbilly “when folks come to Texas” pieces has gone to the DL this season.

Mr. “Bury that chunk” Hamilton? Check.
Cruz? Check.
Feliz? Check.

Now possibly Elvis.

Only Mitch has survived. Beware the commercials, young Moreland! Bewaaaaaaaaaare…

Me: But if we move to some state where our views are in the majority, I won't have anything to rant against all day long! What will fuel my rage??

by WildcatPhoenix on Jun 25, 2011 11:39 AM CDT up reply actions

That isn't hillbilly.

To be hillbilly you have to live in the Ozarks or the foothills of the Appalachian’s and reproduce with relatives in dilapidated single wides. Those commercials are just the Rangers taking the “Texas meme” too far and portraying Texas in a way that isn’t actually accurate.

Oh, this is the spot where everyone else puts long, annoying stories that take up the entire page.

I don't know how much more value he provides

than Murphy if he hits on all cylinders or Moreland playing OF with Naps at first, if need be.

Murphy’s been BAD BAD BAD this year, but I don’t think he’ll be a .281 wOBA all year.

Even at his best, Beltran would still be better, but is he that much better than Murphy and the value in prospects?

I expect him to do the same this year. Beltran wouldn’t be a bad option. It would also keep Moreland out of the OF.
