So today's lesson is about Simon Butler:

From wikipedia

In 1712, Simon Butler, with his good friend Simon Mathews, immigrated from Wales to Pennsylvania. They landed in Philadelphia and lived for a time in New Castle County.[2] In 1720, he purchased 176 acres of land that included much of the then-standing "Village of Chalfont" from a former land grant founded by William Penn. In 1730, he finished construction of his house and mill and then purchased over 400 more acres of land in 1745 including much of present-day Chalfont and New Britain. During this time, Butler built a number of gristmills on the sites of original mills, such as the Funk sawmill and the Shellenberger's mill. He then acted as the sole Justice of the Peace in the County, and until his death he was the economic and legal power in the area. Among other important duties he wrote wills and was well known for his extremely sound judgement. He was also a devout Baptist and helped construct one of the first Baptist churches in the area, the New Britain Baptist Church. After his death in August 1764, his land was parceled to many people, most notably George Kungle, who opened a public house in the 1760s.[3]

Trolling
Rahat Huq, Red94: In carrying a young Grizzlies team to uncharted waters, Zach Randolph defined himself as the game’s best power forward. The former Jail Blazer has grown up; already one of the league’s most supremely gifted pivotmen, he is now taking on a leadership-mentor role. The young quartet of Gasol-Mayo-Conley-Gay is impressive, but Memphis’ window hinges on Z-Bo’s age.

So's the Guadalupe

they are both fed from the Edwards Aquifer, which is a lake about the size of Connecticut that sits underneath Central Texas.

As of today the water level in the Aquifer is at 643 feet, which is low, below Stage 2 dought conditions.

My guess is that both the water in Schlitterbahn (which is fed by the Comal river as well) and the water in all the rivers will be a bit dirty, and the levels low, but you’ll still have a grand time.

Apparently there's a bug where if you name players they behave differently.

For example, Denard Robinson won’t scramble anymore, he’ll just stand in the pocket and throw all day. Even if you don’t name your players, it applies to recruits (who are automatically named). I prefer to play dynasty, so that’s pretty annoying for me.

Yes exactly.

I feel like there’s a great game there waiting to be played… but it’s buried under a lot of drek. I’d be more accepting if it was a small company/title, but this is one of EA’s premier titles… it should at least work right.

People buy it regardless

Why should they make sure it’s ready to be released when people pre-order the shit out of it and they can just patch it later?

Because you should have pride in your product and make sure it actually works?

Obviously they don’t.

EA sports hasnt really updated game play in like 5 or 6 years.

they just add some new dimension to dynasty or campus legend and call it a day. and updating stadiums.

I feel like they spend more 10x longer updating the menus and ESPN stuff than gameplay.

I do feel like the gameplay has improved this year (I’m a fan of the new tackles, for one), but the menus make everything run so slowly…

god yes, it takes forever.

yeah they updated the gang tackling, and that is kind of cool. but they still have the same AI issues, and the catching. god the catching is horrendous.

Also I’m finding it hard to score this year… my friend and I played Wisconsin/Va Tech and the final was like 10-3 (8 min quarters). QBs were just overthrowing and generally being terrible.

anyone ever try to consolidate student loans? holy shit our gov't at work is a scary thing.

has taken over a year to get all my documentation.. then they rejected it for reasons they cant explain.. something about my lenders contract with the gaurantor or something… i have to start the process over.

home electronics question

so my father-in-law gave us his old DVD player (we had been using my PS2 before that). It looks like a good one and it says “HDMI” on it. I hooked it up to the TV with an HDMI cable, but every time we try to play a DVD, it says something along the lines of “HDMI Audio is not supported” in an error message on the tv screen (the video plays fine). What the fuck does that mean?

I did find the deal of a lifetime a few weeks back. Guy was selling a brand new, still has the tags, set of Bauer Reactor 6 — pads, glove and blocker.

Guy said he was a sales rep for Bauer and these were his demo set. I bought them together for $350.

Got them in the mail, and sure enough: Sales tag still on all the pads, with a ©1997 tag.

Awesome.

It's a really frustrating situation.

I took the job because it was great money and because of how they described it. I have a background in electronics and in specialized navigation systems, as well as a ton of military experience in top leadership positions. My last four years in the Navy, I was basically a project manager that worked with a $2 million budget every year. And every year we did great.

I get this job because they want someone with electical knowledge, and my background in schematics and maintenance planning is supposedly what they needed and wanted for this program.

Only problem: I am not allowed to do anything remotely related to the electronics on this equipment and 98% of this job is mechanical hydraulics work, it’s VERY physical work with VERY heavy equipment and only about 1% of what I did the Navy do I do now….and that’s mopping the damn deck.

It was just never a good fit.

It's been a moral dilemma.

How can I, in good consciuence, just quit a high-paying job in this economy? But the reality is the stress of this job was damn near killing me: my back is literally in knots, blood pressure is sky high…..all that. I can deal with a job I dislike, but when it’s work that I’m not good at or comfortable with, in an environment that takes me away from my family for weeks at a time? It’s just not worth it.

Especially since I miss Rangers and Stars games.

Not worth it.

It was kind of a hassle to go because it was kind of far, but I thought it would be worth it for the experience.

Unfortunately, the internship is almost EXACTLY like the job I already had. So I had enough with the driving and time so I just quit and got my job back.

in the Minors report when he says BirdZerk and DogZerk?

I'm wondering if they're terms he uses a lot in his blog

I haven’t read it in awhile, so I don’t know.

BirdZerk

I think it’s this group:

No idea what DogZerk is, but probably something similar.

If you wouldn't mind playing something relatively difficult,

Demon’s Souls. As far as a more casual game, Uncharted 1&2 or Assassins Creed is always good.

What's your steam ID?

You asked me for mine the other day and I didn’t know it because my account name is different than the handle I use in games, I think it’s Turkish41 though.

Somebody in our department tried to heat water in a nalgene-type bottle with the cap on...

blew the door off and into the opposing wall (thankfully nobody was in the kitchen at the moment). We got several emails talking about microwave safety.

Sadly I deleted them.

I just thought it was funny we got an email from the head of the department about it. But apparently people don’t think these things through…

Yep

Superheating is pretty crazy… it can look completely calm and then you put a spoon or something in and it just explodes. That I can understand. But heating water in a microwave in a closed bottle…

Supercooling is pretty awesome too.

It can make for a pretty good trick that doesn’t put 3rd degree burns on you.

Yep.

A pretty cool trick unless you’re an airplane, that is…

Reading about it on wikipedia

Way too many words that I don’t understand in there for it to be as informative as I’d like it to be.

Dear co-workers

Please stop trying to drive me crazy. I do a fine enough job of that myself.

dino dday on sale at steam for 5$
Adolf Hitler has succeeded in resurrecting dinosaurs. The reptilian horde has trampled Europe and the Mediterranean. Can nothing stop the Nazi’s dinosaur army?

Dino D-Day is a frantic, action-packed multiplayer game that will transport you to a World War II that should have been. You and your friends will battle online choosing to serve the cause of the Allied nations or Adolf Hitler. The Allied side includes six playable characters each with unique weapons and abilities to use in combat. Gun down a Dilophosaur with your trusty M1 Garand, blast a kamikaze pterosaur out of the sky with your Thompson sub-machine gun, toss out a dead jack rabbit to lure a raptor into a trap.

As an Axis player you will have your choice of three human classes and three dinosaur classes. Ambush your enemy with speed and stealth as the Raptor, mercilessly pound the enemy with the Desmatosuchus’ heavy 20mm gun, rampage through enemy groups as the Dilophosaur, pick up a body and throw it at an enemy for a double kill! The German soldier classes are the perfect complement to their dinosaur comrades.

You’ve played World War II games before…but have you played a World War II game with dinosaurs?

i am EXCITED.
