This Day in LSB History
One year ago today, the Texas Rangers traded for Cliff Lee.
We talked a lot about it.
First, we saw that T.R. Sullivan had an item saying the Rangers were "working hard" to get Cliff Lee, with Derek Holland and Chris Davis being on the table, Tanner Scheppers and Martin Perez off limits, and Justin Smoak in the "we really don't want to trade him" category.
Then, we saw that Joel Sherman reported that the deal was done.
This was the thread to celebrate Cliff Lee as a Ranger.
This was my reaction to the trade.
That was quite a day. It seems like a long time ago.

He didn't stop there...
fuck you dumb fucks
its a 3 fucking month rental…and then we watch him pitch for another team
during these next 6 years, we’ll watch smoak kick our ass while we fucking wander the streets looking for a 1B since we have 0 on the roster
And i still think Beavan becomes a very good 3 in the Majors
3 fucking months

Someone responded well to him...
Get the fuck over it, douche.
It’s done.
Smoak is gone. Davis is back.
If you actually support the Rangers, you’ll shut the fuck up and realize we just got one of the top 3 pitchers in the American League.
When we take down the Yankees in the postseason with Lee winning 2 of 5 or 3 of 7 games, this thread is going to crucify you.

My first reaction was to internetscream the word 'hate' repeatedly
But then we found out the backup three was only Beavan (still would be a decent piece to have, but, meh), Lueke (who nearly fractured their whole operation), and Lawson (isn’t he like a priest now?)

OK
and if they do, there’s no guarantee you even want him with that selection.

Not a 2011 draft prospectus
Just saying that it is not out realm of possibility.

well, dang
i guess i shouldn’t have said i might have included Holland in that trade. But, then, i go through that thread….seems like everyone hated giving up anyone of any real talent. Gotta give up something to get something.
’we’re the laughing stock of the league’, oh ab03…and then BG comes in with the first positive comment, ironic.
i cried thinking about cliff lee and what he mean tin
my stupid life… i love that man… he meant more to me than jesus christ. serious.

I went out and bought tickets to his first start as soon as I heard when it would be
The start sucked but the atmosphere and the excitement in the ballpark that night was amazing. Money well spent IMO
:(
Lueke is a… potential power relief arm. But the Rangers are pretty well loaded with power relief arms…
):
Also, I'm not saying Lueke shouldn't have been in the trade,
I’m just sad that we went from being “stocked” on power relief arms to needing to trade for one.
Cliff Lee
It really is striking that that trade feels so long ago…
Until last year, I always found it somewhat pitiful that Lewin’s call of the Dellucci double remained the marquee highlight for this franchise. In fact, that was the first highlight I always used for a pick-me-up after a tough loss. It still holds up pretty well. The Dellucci double was a beautiful play, a beautiful call, and a beautiful moment. But, sadly, it was pretty meaningless. A brief moment of late-season substance in yet another empty season. A season in which we watched Buckles do what Buckles does, even if we didn’t fully realize what that meant at the time.
Now, as I did this afternoon, I can spend an hour watching highlights from the ALDS, the ALCS, and the World Series (even though I generally skip those). They bring me peace. They bring me joy. And, most of all, they bring me the knowledge that the Texas Rangers attained a moment of real relevance in Major League Baseball. And all of that really starts with the moment of the Cliff Lee trade. Cliff Lee didnt get us into the postseason, but he damn sure kept us there. And he did it in his own brilliantly unique fashion that led to all the hagiographies being written about him on this and many other websites.
The highlights for this franchise that involve Cliff Lee remain all too brief—three starts, when you really break it down—but he was the gateway that led to all the other memorable moments from the first 11 games of the 2010 postseason. And I think that’s what I’ll choose to remember more than anything.
I can't quit you, Cliff Lee trade...

what sucks is
seeing what the Angels gave up for Haren and what the Mariners gave up for Lee.
A bunch of dookie. I guess there are negatives of have too good of a farm system. Other teams think our 1-5 prospects are on par with other teams’
hehe Im reading that thread again and wow did Angrydome come out in full force.
hindsight is 20/20 but yeah I think eventhough Lee left we’ll take that trade again in a heartbeat. We didn’t win the series but we got there and had a memorable october, there’s a couple teams who still haven’t gone to the dance yet.
For some reason I still cant bring myself to be that devastated that we didnt win the world series. Don’t get me wrong I wanted it and every once in a while it hits me just how close we were.. But I will never forget Happy striking out Arod, and I stop at the series whenever i go back and watch the playoffs, Im at peace with the result.
Just hope we get another chance and bring it home this time.
