OT: Aggies are lame

Oh.. here.

Star-divide

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/30/sports/ncaafootball/texas-am-closer-to-withdrawing-from-big-12.html

Texas A&M’s departure from the Big 12 Conference drew closer to reality on Monday when the university’s president, R. Bowen Loftin, sent a letter to the Big 12 board chairman, the Missouri chancellor Brady Deaton, notifying the league that the Aggies would formally withdraw — very likely on Tuesday — according to two college officials with direct knowledge of the decision.

The body is not blank.

What about...

SEC expands to 14, Big 10 starts mulling expansion, ACC sees writing on wall and raids Big East preemptively, stealing Pitt, Cuse, Rutgers, and WVU.

by Closure GT on Aug 30, 2011 10:42 AM CDT up reply actions

That would be a hell of an outcome for the ACC.

Hey, I didn't file the lawsuit!

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2052787

As part of a multimillion dollar settlement over the defection of three schools, the conferences have scheduled nine additional football games from 2008-12, including a visit by Miami to Pittsburgh. The settlement, first reported by The Hartford Courant, was also obtained by The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The newspaper reported that the total value of the settlement was $5 million. The agreement didn’t specify how much each Big East school will receive, but a UConn bank statement obtained by the AP shows that $1 million was deposited on April 27, the day the settlement was finalized, by the law firm assigned to distribute the cash.

[…]

Complaining that they spent millions of dollars to upgrade their programs based on the presumed loyalty of the defectors, four Big East schools that were left behind sued. In a flurry of lawsuits and countersuits, Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal accused Miami and Boston College of conspiring with the ACC to weaken the Big East by luring away some of its biggest football powers.

I don’t see it happening at all, and it’s based not on fact…only on the perceived benefit that the SEC could get by penetrating the DFW market.

Even Rice makes more sense than TCU

At least Rice would give the SEC West a balance to Vandy in the East and another academic school to bolster their reputation.

TCU doesn’t add that many TV sets, but still has the potential to beat all those national championship contenders week in/ week out. They’d rather have a pushover than a power if they aren’t adding numbers.

I cant see TCU in the SEC

I can not remember one single cheating scandal that TCU has ever been involved in. I think cheating is pretty much a requirement to be in the SEC. I guess they could be the western division version of Vanderbilt

I’m still not real clear why the Aggies are going. They are going to pay somewhere between $15 – $30 million to leave the B12 and go to SEC which actually pays their schools less on the TV deal than the B12. Just a couple of years ago, they were running a deficit and couldnt afford to clean the bat poop out of their stadium. But, anyway, they seem all fired up about so go have fun, live long and prosper. At this point, their whining has got old and so goodbye and good luck

by BEW on Aug 30, 2011 5:11 PM CDT reply actions

I dont think that is correct

The deal they have runs for an insanely long time and while re-opening is an option neither the SEC or the networks expect much if any renogitiations

Ok State isn't going anywhere without OU

Clemson is in South Carolina, and the SEC already has a school from South Carolina called South Carolina.
FSU is in Florida and the SEC already has a school from Florida called Florida.

You can't think of a cheating scandal that TCU has ever been involved in?

they were a big contributor to the SWC breakup by getting on probation (no TV back then) in the 1980s. Even worse, they were cheating and were still awful on the football field…

The SEC has equal revenue sharing across the board and equal say from each team in the conference in how the conference is run.

SEC = everyone is equal.

UT = we don’t want equality, we want clear superiority.
