Unless he is a PTBNL

in one of the trades, I think the Rangers have to protect him from the rule 5 draft. Someone would nab him.

West is also rule 5 eligible, right?

Looking on the web

Rule 5 guys and Minor Free Agents located in a non-updated list here

I expect the couple PTBNL’s are on here. I think we’re guaranteed to protect NeRa. I would think we’d either trade or protect West and Mendez. Most everyone else probably is safe, though someone might pick Butler (due to proximity) or Telis.

I didn’t realize Yan was a minor league free agent. He has posted really good numbers in relief.

Buckel has a full four-pitch assortment, complementing his fastball (Davis notes that he “can run it up there at 94 but knows he’s more effective locating it at 91-92”) with an effective curve, a changeup, and, according to Davis, a cutter that’s morphed into a slider, and he commands all of it at an advanced level for a teenager.

The Hickory radio guy is arguing that the Crawdads should position an extra player behind the catcher.

I think only the player can position himself in foul territory by rule, eh? I remember Keith Hernandez getting grief from umps for standing with one foot in foul ground when he covered first base with a runner on.

in the AAA rotation, that team could field a top 3 of Perez-Ramirez-Feliz. I’m so turning that into a roadtrip and three-day mega-blogging event.

TV charteen Marteen

Missed the first two batters, the first guy ground out. As for the second… SS Nick Green kicked a groundball for a “single” on the second batter

Batter 3 – Lorenzo Cain
1 – Fastball, ball, low
2 – Fastball, ball, low
3 – Fastball, called strike
4 – Flyout

Batter 4 – Clint Robinson (L)
1 – Ball
2 – Curveball or changeup? swinging strike, down in the dirt
3 – Curveball or changeup? swinging strike, down in the dirt
4 – Fastball, ball, high
5 – Fastball, ball, low
6 – Changeup, swinging strike

15 pitches, 9 strikes (60%), 3 swinging strikes all on the same guy (20%)

by Telegraph on Sep 8, 2011 7:17 PM CDT up reply actions

Marteen 2nd

Batter 1 – Kila Ka’aihue
1 – Fastball, called strike, outside and up
2 – Fastball, swinging strike, on the Marteen corner
3 – Fastball, ball, in the dirt
4 – Fastball, groundball single up the middle, beating the shift

Batter 2 – Falu®
1 – Fastball, bunt, Marteen tries to go to 1B, but nobody covered first
Fielders covered 2B instead, and Marteen should have gone to 2B since the runner was really slow

Batter 3 – Arias®
1 – Fastball, ball, outside
2 – Fastball, ball, outside and low
3 – Fastball, Foul
4 – Changeup, foul
5 – Groundball tapper right back at Marteen, kicks off his glove, and he recovers and throws to first which would have been close, but 1B Ruiz flat drops the throw

Batter 4 – ®
1 – Fastball, ball, inside and up
2 – Changeup, ball, outside
3 – Changeup?, ball, outside
4 – Fastball, called strike
5 – Fastball, swinging strike (94)
6 – Foul
7 – Fastball, foul
8 – Curveball, ball, pretty close
Walks in a run

Batter 5 – ®
1 – Changeup, ball, way outside
2 – Changeup, ball, outside, probably a strike
3 – Fastball, ball, outside
4 – Fastball, called strke
5 – Foul
6 – Easy flyball to RF, RF drops the ball, but throws to 2B and gets the runner anyway…

Batter 6 – Dyson (L)
1 – Bunt groundout to 1B, the ball clearly goes foul, but the 1B umpire calls it fair even though he couldn’t see it – run scores

Batter 7 – (L)
1 – Curveball, called strike, stayed up and looked flat
2 – Curveball, groundout to 1B

40 pitches, 23 strikes (57.5%), 5 swinging strikes (12.5%)

P.T. Barnum would have been proud of that half inning

Marteen 3rd

Batter 1 – Lorenzo Cain – R
1 – Curveball, ball, down the dirt (much sharper curveball)
2 – Fastball?, called strike, outside and up
3 – Foul
4 – Fastball, called strike, inside

Batter 2 – Clint Robinson – L
1 – Fastball, ball, in the dirt
2 – Fastball, ball, inside
3 – Fastball, outside
4 – Fastball, low

Batter 3 – Ka’aihue
1 – Groundout to 3B – took a long time for the 3B to get to it as he wanted to let it go foul. Thank god Ka’aihue is slow

Batter 4 – Falu R
1 – Ball, in the dirt
2 – Groundout to SS

54 pitches, 31 strikes (57.4%), 5 swinging strikes (9.3%)

by Telegraph on Sep 8, 2011 7:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Marteen 4th

Batter 1 – Arias – R
1 – Fastball, ball, low
2 – Fastball, called strike, outside
3 – Curveball, swinging strike, announcers think Arias almost dislocated his shoulder on that swing – unaware of his regenerative abilities
4 – Curveball, swinging strike

Batter 2 – Manny Pina – R
1 – Foul
2 – Called strike (bad camera angle), announcers say it’s a breaking ball
3 – Fastball, ball, outside and low
4 – Curveball, foul
5 – Curveball, barely tapped foul
6 – Changeup, swinging strike, outside (82)

Batter 3 – R
1 – Fastball, ball, low in dirt
2 – Fastball, ball, low
3 – Fastball, ball, low – looked like a strike
4 – Fastball, called strike, inside
5 – Fastball?, ball

Batter 4 – Dyson – L
1 – Fastball, called strike
2 – Curveball, swinging strike, in the dirt
3 – Curveball, called strike

72 pitches, 43 strikes (59.7%), 9 swinging strikes (12.5%)

Much better inning – other than the Acute SLoCS (Sudden Loss of Control Syndrome)

3 walks, 5 Ks so far – all 3 walks come after starting the batter with 3 straight balls

by Telegraph on Sep 8, 2011 8:05 PM CDT up reply actions

Marteen 5th

Batter 1 – L
1 – Changeup, called strike
2 – Fastball, ball, low
3 – Foul
4 – Curveball, foul
5 – Ball, inside
6 – Fastball, popout to SS

Batter 2 – Lorenzo Cain – R
1 – Fastball, ball, high
2 – Fastball, ball, outside
3 – groundball single through the middle

Batter 3 – Clint Robinson – L
1 – Curveball, swinging strike, outside
2 – Fastball, balll, inside and low
3 – another groundball single through the middle

Batter 4 – Kila Ka’aihue – L
1 – Curveball, foul
2 – Fastball, ball, outside in the dirt
3 – Changeup?, ball down in the dirt
4 – Fastball?, ball, low
5 – Changeup?, lines into double play to 2B

89 pitches, 52 strikes (58.4%), 10 swinging strikes (11.2%)

A lot of groundball “singles” that Marteen gives up are self-inflicted by the defense, those two, however, are real groundball singles

marteen done, Scheppers in

Batter 1 – Falu – L
1 – Fastball, ball, in the dirt (96)
2 – Fastball, called strike, high in the zone
3 – Fastball, foul, even higher
4 – Curveball, single bounced over Scheppers’ head. My god the middle infielders have no range

Batter 2 – Arias – R
1 – Fastball, ball, inside
2 – ball outside + stolen base
3 – Fastball, called strike, high
4 – Infield single, a little tap that Scheppers fields; alas he drops the ball

batter 3 – Manny Pina – R
1 – Fastball, foul
2 – Fastball, foul
3 – Curveball, ball, outside and high
4 – Curveball, line drive to RF that RF couldn’t quite make the play on, he picks up and throws to SS, who couldn’t catch the ball to tag out the runner
That curveball looked like it was right in the middle of the zone

Batter 4 – R
1 – Fastball, ball, high
2 – Fastball, bunted foul
3 – Curveball, missed bunt, sexy curveball
4 – Curveball, missed bunt again, another sexy curveball

Batter 4 – L
1 – Fastball, grounded into double play to 2B

17 pitches, 12 strikes (70.6%), 2 missed bunts…

Everything is up, threw some good looking curveballs, but a couple that stayed in the middle of the zone
