Attendance, Tickets and Promos August 5-7 edition

Three game series this weekend against the Indians. Not only is every game big because we have such a narrow lead over the Angels, but Cleveland is itself very much alive in the Central so this theoretically (if somewhat unlikely) could be an ALCS preview. All that considered, there is only one reason I can think of--the heat wave--why they wouldn't draw an average of 40k this weekend. Let's take a quick look at the three games

Friday August 5 Rangers vs. Indians 7:05 p.m.-Lauren Hoying will sing the national anthem followed by probably the best pitching match up of the weekend with shut out machine Derek Holland facing the AL debut of Ubaldo Jimenez. You can still get infield seats for $10, albeit in the 20th row of the third deck, using the verizon coupon code. With Texas Country themed fireworks and five dollar parking thrown in, that is a good deal for this matchup.

Otherwise, between premium pricing and game day pricing you will pay $74 if you walk up to the ticket window to buy lower box seats. You'll do much better on Stubhub, with lower box seats more in a range of $45-$55 a seat, which comes out well ahead of the box office even with the 10% upcharge.

Saturday August 6 Rangers vs. Indians 7:05 p.m.- Wilson vs. Carmona While they have mostly moved promotions and special events off of Saturdays this game is an exception.. Texas Rangers Alumni will be giving autographs in the main concourse from 5:00 to 5:45. Then, at 6:40 there will be the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame induction ceremony honoring Kenny Rogers.

Although tickets are even tighter for this game than they are for Friday on the Rangers website, indicating a probable 40k plus crowd, they are more plentiful (nearly 2000 available) on Stubhub. They are also cheaper than for Friday as of right now, but the catch is that there are only a few lower box and lower infield seats available at those lower (38-$45) prices and if they sell and prices for other seats don't drop, then we will be back up in the range of Friday's higher ($45-$55) price. My guess is that the substantial number available ensures that prices do drop and that lower box and lower infield at or a little below $40 continue to be available so long as tickets stay on sale.

Sunday August 7 Rangers vs. Indians 7:05 p.m. -Tomlin vs. Lewis They'll be giving out back to school binders to the kids, which must mean that the end of summer vacation for the kids isn't far away.. Also $1 Bluebell icecream for the kids. Cat Osterman of softball pitching fame will throw out the first pitch which will almost certainly put what we have seen recently from Jason Terry and Dirk to shame. Over 3,000 seats available on Stubhub has prices for lower box/lower infield well down into the $30s and all but certain to drop further. At least it's a night game.
