I have a friend who wishes to archive recent championship sports footage. Has anyone tried transferring DVR footage (DirecTV) to an external hard-drive or first-generation apple TV and/or archiving the same to DVD (for personal, non-commercial use).  

I've googled solutions but they are all from 2008 or 2009 and I don't know how current they are.  Has anyone tried this recently?  I know a tech forum is better for this than LSB but I thought others might be interested in the solution if/when I find it.
