One of the fun things about baseball is 162 games gives you a better chance to see everything once. Even rare and incredible things, like the Oakland Athletics beating the Texas Rangers in a scorefest. Of course, that was not one of the fun things about today's baseball. It was just a thing.
Let's all just accept the 35,000th line drive out to end it was balancing out Michael Young being called safe, and poor one out for Alexi and Yoshi.

Big Ogando supporter but its time to get him out the rotation..
We’re fighting for our playoffs lives here, Feldman needs to take his spot.
And despite yesterday’s start, I have no faith in Colby against offenses like NY, Boston, detroit but with Ogando not looking good, we almost have no choice.
Not particularly, because now it's clear who gets left out of the playoff rotation.

Now we don’t have much room for error at all.
If we were facing LA, Seattle or Oakland I would be like yeah Colby… But we’re not.

Okay, your range is good, but you underrate Harrison and Ogando, and flipped Holland and Lewis.
Ceej ranks 10th. Harrison ranks 20th. Ogando ranks 22nd. Lewis ranks 41st. Holland ranks 50th.
Shockingly, when you add batted ball rates to pitcher evaluation, Holland doesn’t look as good. I know, everyone’s shocked. Also, this is two straight years Lewis has looked better by tRA (he was FOURTH last year in the AL) than other measures.

So.
While this is boosted by GS and that’s something that matters less in October, what this suggests is a damn fine rotation. If you spread out the pitchers draft-style across all 30 teams, Holland would be a No. 2 starter on all but a little over half of the teams in baseball. By PRAA, at least. And that’s the worst part of the Rangers’ rotation.
As far as rate stats, they still all look fine here. With a minimum 67 xIP, they all still fit comfortably in the top 65 pitchers in baseball. So the Rangers rotation this year has (again, by tRA, not by everything) been able to get strong third starter value AT WORST out of every spot in their rotation.
That’s fucking sexy in any language.
The downside everyone knows, of course. While having three guys who look like No. 1 starters is great, one of those three seems completely out of gas. The other is a kid who has had some breakdowns in his life. You’d rather the top of your rotation looked better for the playoffs. Lewis’s problems this year seem to be mistake pitches getting pounded, which may make him more prone to getting beat by playoff-caliber lineups than the typical pitcher of his overall value. Also, as you pointed out, this is largely because of how healthy this rotation has been, and that means little for October.
I do think this is a fine playoff rotation, just not as underratedly awesome as last year’s was. Marching in to the playoffs with one of the best pitchers in baseball and two guys who would be the best in most rotations was great, especially when no one bothered to acknowledge that.
Also, this is just one method of pitcher measurement.

I’m still baffled that they’re even remotely close in the division. They should have run away with this thing by now. Stupid first half bullpen.
I think this team is far more similar to last year’s Rays club than last year’s Rangers club. Which is fine, because we won’t run into a Cliff Lee in the ALDS (only Verlander is in that category)

You do have to worry any time you have guys like Holland and Harrison in a playoff game
but then again, that sort of experience is the sort of thing that can take a good young pitcher who has some ups and downs and anneal them into a powerful force going forward.

Well, on Twitter today, Jeff Sullivan was respectfully challenging Adam's certainty that Ogando is done.
His true outcome peripherals are still great. His batted ball outcomes on top of that are still just fine. So when you just look at stats, he looks good as ever.
Those of us watching the game think he’s lost his location and is starting to get pounded. Those of us watching the game might also be emotionally influenced and trusting our eyes too much.

I'm really kind of iffy on what to do with him the rest of the season.
If there’s something wrong with him for real — like we viewers think — then I don’t want him starting, and I’d also like to give Feldman a look.
But, Jeff makes a good case that suggests we might be imagining things, or trying to explain away what’s really just luck. I don’t think it’s just luck, but I’m also not confident it’s just luck. If he’s just having a rough spot of unrepeatable failure, maybe it’s a mistake to cross a guy who’s been a TORP for most of the season out of the playoff rotation.

you have to put more stock in recent months than early months.
That said, you also can’t rely only on September.

I think you put stock in the recent months if your scouting department can give you a good reason for the change in production.
If it’s just the ebb and flow of an MLB season — which I suspect it usually is — you go with who the larger evidence suggests is better.
If someone is actually having trouble locating or keeping his arm slot or whatever because of fatigue or any number of other reasons that your internal scouts can detect, then you have to cut bait with someone who carried you this far.

By FIP, everyone is in the top 40 but Lewis, who sits just outside the top 70. That’s still a suggestion that the worst guy in this rotation this year, though, has been a good No. 3 starter.

I visited the Wedge twice.

Because I think at this point in the season, he can work an inning or two
and be fairly effective. Especially if you yank him out of the rotation the rest of the way, or at least limit his starts.

Can someone tell me why people think heckling opposing players — in particular, yelling the same thing at them, over and over and over during their at bat, especially if it is related to their name — is a good idea?
Do they think it is distracting the player? Do they think that everyone around them in admiring their cleverness and feeling this is enhancing their enjoyment of the game? Or are hecklers just selfish assholes who want people to pay attention to them rather than the game?

Yes… they’ve taken the first two against the Yankees because Weaver and Haren are both great pitchers that finally pitched the way they normally do instead of the suckfest they had been doing.
Also… we’re only 146 games into the season, not 155.
Run differential and head to head, as well as nearly any talent metric have shown the Rangers to have a clear edge.
Could be worse… could be a SF Giants fan.

Blues is a genre…within this genre there are SEVERAL styles….I love Delta and Hill Coutry prolly the beast. I like all of them….but I like stripped down, swampy shit with some cat banging on some keys…..nothing too fancy…

To close for comfort
I agree I thought the Rangers would use these games against the A’s to go on a run and with the Angels playing the Yankees they could hopefully gain some ground. Although as long as they keep it close there is still three games @ the Angels to close out the year. But for sure they have me worried now. I hoped they would have it in the bag so they could rest people and get the rotation set for the post season instead of having to take 10 or 12 of the last 16 games (7 at home) down the stretch.
it still kills me how we seem to be playing like it was this time last year and we had a huge lead. this team needs to start playing with some urgency and start acting like they are the better team.
their going to cakewalk their way out of the playoffs with the way the Angels are rolling right now against bad teams and teams that are slumping or not trying.
Glad I missed this one, I guess.
