Texas History
1859 - Robert Simpson Neighbors was shot and killed by Edward Cornett at Fort Belknap. Neighbors was an Indian agent for the Lipan Apaches, Tonkawas and Comanches. 

1911 - In Laredo, the Congreso Mexicanista began meeting. It was the first statewide Mexican-American civil-rights conference. 

1919 - In Corpus Christi, Spohn Hospital was destoyed by a hurricane. 

1964 - Texas folklorist J. Frank Dobie received the Medal of Freedom from President Lyndon B. Johnson.
