“Can someone explain to me, in 140 characters or less, why OU can’t just go with A&M to the SEC?”
Because of state politics. Oklahoma can’t leave OK State behind.

as hard as this may be to believe
but living N of the red river and knowing people who should know things…OU does not WANT to go to the SEC. In addition to the state politics…
1) Scandals – OU has tried to get its house clean and wants to stay that way.
2) OU does want to be known for acedemics and that wont happen in the SEC (notice they flaunt that they have more National Merit Scholars than ANY other school)
3) They have a legit shot at the MNC EVERY year in the 12-2-1 or Pac?, but only occasionally in the SEC. (the are a big fish in a little pond and would become an average fish in an ocean….just like A&M will become a minnow in that ocean)
4) There is a bond between OU and OSU, kind of an us against the world since everyone outside OK thinks we live in tepees and ride horses to school.
