Very cool pool, by the way. You draw for the 10 spots and the order works in a way that it’s fair for everybody. First team gets the first pick, then picks 20 and 26. Team Two: 2, 16, 29. Team Three: 3, 13, 30. Team Four: 4, 18, 25. Team Five: 5, 15, 27. Team Six: 6, 19, 22. Team Seven: 7, 11, 28. Team Eight: 8, 17, 21. Team Nine: 9, 14, 23. Team Ten: 10, 12, 24. I ended up with the Patriots, Titans and Redskins.

They are the uggs of flip-flops.
I’m not sure how big they are in Texas, or wherever you reside, but they’re huge on the West Coast. Rainbows last forever and can be used as a rugged flip-flop or a clean, good looking flip-flop.(wtf?)
If you ever make it to San Clemente, CA, the Rainbow headquarters are there and people have shipped back their flipflops that have lasted them for over nearly thirty years.
Cool thing too about Rainbows, if something breaks on them you can send them back to the factory and they’ll send you a new pair for free. However, the sole must not be worn down, or else you’re pretty much SOL.
by DevilManHammy on Sep 9, 2011 8:36 AM CDT up reply actions
seems like it might justify the investment, then
I just can’t see myself spending that much on flip flops…maybe, though
They're usually around 40-50 Bucks.
Which isn’t too bad, if you do look at it as an investment. I’ve had my rainbows for over four years and they’re still going strong. I used to wear them everyday for the first three years of owning them, since I lived in Tempe at the time.

Ian Kennedy has been absolutely fantastic this season.
The D-Backs always seem to score a top of the rotation starter. Schilling/Johnson, Webb, Haren and now Kennedy. I think this is the deepest rotation they’ve had since 2002. Collmenter, Hudson, Kennedy and Saunders will make it interesting in the NL playoffs.
by DevilManHammy on Sep 9, 2011 8:25 AM CDT reply actions
Yes, I do agree with that statement.
Hudson and Kennedy are pitching great and Collmenter has been solid a a rookie. Saunders has been an innings eater, similar to Doug Davis. I would expect the DBacks to rely extensively on Kennedy and Hudson in the playoffs.

The girl I was supposed to room with has backed out on me, and is giving everyone a guilt trip because the weekend activities are not to her liking and now she’s feeling left out. (By the way, this is a bachlorette party for one of our friends, so, understandably, the bride chose the activities.)

Pablo Honey = underrated album
Great musicianship
always thought they had a joy division / the pixies kinda sound to them
If knowledge is power, why does Stephen Hawking need batteries?
Agreed.
If their catalog didn’t have some of the albums it does, I might look at it more fondly. As is, it’s just another 90’s alternative album that everyone built up too much.
"You're failing Seymour; what is it with you and failure?"
Nnnnnnnnnno.
Stop Whispering and Anyone Can Play Guitar alone make the album something more than “just another 90s alternative album.”
"I have thought a lot about why people get so hostile online, and I have come to believe it is primarily because we live in a society with a hypertrophied sense of justice and an atrophied sense of humility and charity, to put the matter in terms of the classic virtues." --Alan Jacobs
Full disclosure: I probably haven't listened to that album at all in years.
Every time I get the urge to put them on nowadays, it’s usually Kid A/OK Computer/In Rainbows/King of Limbs.
"You're failing Seymour; what is it with you and failure?"
Lurgee and Blowout are also great

I don't even remember those anymore.
Sometime years ago I stopped listening to most of the songs on it all the way through enough to justify playing the whole album.
It's a roadtrip listen for me, but not much more.

Don't mean to be that guy
but I’m fairly sure it wouldn’t actually look much like that at all. Earth is too small/close to the sun.
Anger logic's so great I kinda forget what we saw in regular logic in the first place.
That's why it couldn't have rings like that, right?
Like, if it somehow could have rings like that, why wouldn’t they be visible a la the moon?
Well Saturn's ring are also largely ice
which (I believe) we are too close to the sun for that much ice to exist in a ring around the earth. Plus the rings would be smaller, and I’d assume less smooth-looking. It looked like he just pasted Saturn’s rings around the Earth.

Brees had just led them downfield 79 yards in about a minute all through the air
And yet he decides to run a rookie up the gut when GB had been killing NO up the middle all night.
If you run it there you run it wide because those two behemoth GB DTs were not moving all night long.
I think he tried to outsmart his own self and it ended up costing them a chance to tie the game
This is stupid.
Throwing the ball from the 1 into the endzone is not a lot like throwing the ball down the field, especially for a team that likes to stretch you vertically like the Saints. That said, I also agree that running up the middle was probably not the best idea either.
Anger logic's so great I kinda forget what we saw in regular logic in the first place.
I never said they should have thrown it
Just that running it straight ahead last night at that point was a horrible call. Spread the field and then run it or run something to the edges. Or hell do that play they ran where Brees faked the throw then faked the handoff and then threw back to the opposite side. Basically that play last night was the worst fucking play call I could imagine coming from Sean Peyton right there
No this part is stupid (which I understand was not really your point):
Brees had just led them downfield 79 yards in about a minute all through the air
People say things like that all the time, but the fact is throwing the ball from your own 30 is very different than throwing the ball from your opponents 5. I do agree that they should’ve run it outside. Personally I probably would’ve put 3 WRs out there and tried to spread them out a little bit, even if you were just going to run.
Anger logic's so great I kinda forget what we saw in regular logic in the first place.
I guess my point with that part of the comment is you should let your leader make the call in that situation
Line up with 3 WRs and plan to run the ball but if the D lines up to stuff it Brees should be able to check to a different play.
As it was they lined up in a heavy formation and had nothing to change to if they so chose to do so. Thus taking the ball effectively out of Brees’ hand when he was the one leading them down the field the previous 70 seconds
Yeah, that I can agree with.
Anger logic's so great I kinda forget what we saw in regular logic in the first place.
True.

I don't see how any of the current GOP candidates can mount a serious challenge
especially if Rick Perry takes the nomination. The DNC will replay the “Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme” quote a trillion times and scare old people by saying the options are voting for Obama or digging through trashcans to find a fish skeleton to eat.

I suspect Romney will win the nomination.
There’s blood in the water, and Obama’s inchoate Truman-style campaign against Congress isn’t going to work with unemployment hovering at 8.5%+ and the GOP caucus happy to extend the payroll tax cuts. Prepare for a level of political cynicism hitherto unseen over the next 12 months.

I really think Romney will have issues in his own party
because of the Massachusetts health care plan and because of his religion. I think he’s the GOP’s best option by far (and if it were him vs Obama, I would take a good long look at Romney), but I think he’s vulnerable to the cheap shot attacks that Perry’s camp will undoubtedly launch against him.

I am not a big fan of Perry
But several politicians have had their political careers ended by underestimating Perry. In fact, I think thats what he does best. People look at him and say “no way, dude” and on election night find themselves looking at his victory speech on TV. As far as the SS comment. It is a ponzi scheme and I think there are less and less people that doubt that. Not to say it was a good comment, but I think he can weather it.
I think this election will go like the 1980 election. Carter was a complete boob who had only one thing going for him and that was he was likable. Unfortunately, he had no campaign options except to run a fiercely negative campaign against Reagan. By the end of the campaign he had been so negative people had quit liking him. Obama has no choice but to run the same type of campaign and will probably end the same way. Of course, Perry is no Reagan so maybe there is a sliver of hope for Obama, but its a pretty small sliver.
by BEW on Sep 9, 2011 9:28 AM CDT up reply actions
If Perry does nothing, I hope that his "Ponzi scheme" comment is the starting point
for SS reform….maybe relating SS to a “real world issue” rather than discussing it in terms of trillions of dollars (where people instantly tune out) is what is needed. Politicians are so afraid to touch it but something has to be done but if you can just set a cutoff point to appease the elderly, maybe something can get done. Tell everyone above 50 or 55 their SS is safe….below that age, reform is coming so be prepared.
I’ve said here many times that I’m not depending on SS for my retirement but I’m in the minority…there’s is no way SS is sustained in 25-30 years…not with baby-boomers and increased life expectancy.

There's no way they can do that without rage from millions of people....
There has to be some kind of phase out plan….I was thinking about this yesterday.
Above 55 (or whatever age is set)…get your SS as planned but the retirement age has to be raised.
30-55…you have 2 options
1. Take a lump sum of your SS contributions…this money would have to go into a retirement account. Once you have your lump sum, you don’t contribute to SS and you are on your own for retirement.
2. Continue with your SS contributions but the retirement age is raised
Below 30….contribute nothing to SS but you’re on your own for retirement.
I know it’s pie in the sky thinking but I just wish I had my SS money from when I started working to right now to invest how I saw fit….there’s no telling where I would be.

Limiting government programs to ONLY their original intent is a pretty decent idea in most cases. Programs tend to grow organically, but never shrink organically. That is unsustainable.

The Texas Rangers have been synonymous with explosive firepower ever since they emptied 130 rounds into Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow in 1934. - Alyssa Milano
This isn't exactly true.
Most economists that I’ve read on the subject seem to think that serious but not drastic reforms can make it viable for the next 50+ years.

Serious vs drastic.....
What is serious to some is drastic to others….at any rate, I’m not willing to roll the dice and hope that “serious” change is enacted. If it works out….great. Extra money for me when I retire.

Serious: Raising the age limit again, reducing benefits, etc.
Drastic: Killing the program’s future.

Obama isn't going to run against the GOP nominee; he's going to run against a do-nothing Congress.

His campaign has already signaled the strategy will be the 1980 negative campaign.
The Truman “do nothing congress” strategy wont work. Truman ran against congress that was controlled by the GOP. The dems still control the Senate. Besides that, the GOP controlled house has done plenty. Obama doesnt like what they have passed, but they have passed a lot. The problem is in the dem controlled senate which hasnt passed a budget in 2 years
In fairness, they also haven't been SENT a budget in those two years..

Obama sent a budget early this year and they voted it down 97-0
but I’m just talking strategy
I see the strategy part; that's why he sent an unworkable DOA budget
My point was that he hasn’t sent anything resembling a real budget, but that’s a separate discussion from the strategy angle.

In all seriousness
I think that government funding should be directed towards fields that have a pretty big gap between potential value to public and potential value to companies. Basically, if a problem is reasonably solvable by big pharma, then the NIH shouldn’t be funding the research. Neuroscience, as well as some other fields, are so far away from being at a place where pharma can reasonably invest money with a hope of finding treatments. As a result, pretty much the ONLY source of resources to eventually cure Alzheimers, Parkinsons, etc is NIH. Most pharma is cutting their neuro divisions for a reason.

"I’d love to walk in and hug everybody every day, but that’s not critical to us winning." - Jon Daniels
That's not entirely true.
It’s just that big Pharma is only funding the aspects of those diseases that fall into line with how they’ve succeeded in the past: vaccines, drugs that they don’t understand the molecular mechanism of, etc.
"I’d love to walk in and hug everybody every day, but that’s not critical to us winning." - Jon Daniels
Oh, I know
but there are at least some areas of medicine – say certain cancers – where pharma would have the cost benefit advantage to pursue on their own if it weren’t for having to risk competition with so many NIH funded groups since at least some finish lines are in sight.
I’m not talking in the ideal – ideally we’d have money to fund all of this with NIH. But in reality? NIH $ per disease will continue to shrink. I think it is better to focus those dollars on diseases that are of highest public trauma and least likely to be tackled by companies.

you let researchers pursue what interests them. This is something that the general public don’t often understand, but most of the great discoveries have come from ideas or approaches that aren’t evident ahead of time.

That stuff should be more consequentialist. Let the art historians research whatever the hell they want.

I think what I said applies more to science, engineering and math research,
but it applies to medicine also. One of the most common signalling agents attached to proteins now came from a jellyfish. And that agent is used ALL the time in science now.

He was passable, and he at least knew the system cold.

I've always wanted to see an offense that used a running quarterback in place of a runningback in some formations.
Purdue did that some last year.

Luck has much, much, much more hype than Rodgers. Plus, Favre wouldn’t have the recent injury problems, no?

I can't see them cutting him or trading him because of the public and team face persona he is
but paying 2 QBs is tough on financials and handicaps the team long term I’m thinking
I think they would be better off since I don’t think Peyton would be the dick Favre was, but its sad because you would almost have to pray for injury retirement at some point so you don’t end up screwed.
If knowledge is power, why does Stephen Hawking need batteries?
But will it be under the new CBA?
Also, his development year could provide cover for them to rehaul a lot of that team…and I get the impression that it needs it right now. They’ve got some decent blue chip guys, but also a lot of nobodies.

Develop.
Raf had a post a week or two ago that talked about how the Colts only have 4 or 5 starters from the 2006-2009 drafts (or something like that), which is not very many.
Anger logic's so great I kinda forget what we saw in regular logic in the first place.
Depends how much the new rookie salary thing deflates those top picks contracts
would still be expensive but maybe not as much as previously
You would have to think it would hamper your flexibility still even if the deals are cheaper no?
If knowledge is power, why does Stephen Hawking need batteries?
Oh it would definitely hamper it some
Just depends how much and would it be worth the risk long term to have that franchise QB locked up even if he is a backup for 2-3 seasons
2-3 rebuilding seasons with tied up $ though
so you can’t quite bring in the top you go average and hope for the best
If knowledge is power, why does Stephen Hawking need batteries?
No, no
You trade him to the Dolphins… they’ll give you a 1st round pick after scrapping Henne, and signing Garrard. They’ve had enough of the shitty QBs. They’ll pay Peyton 25 million a year, prolly.
Doubt it.
That just doesn’t seem to be the way the Colts do things. I could see the Cowboys doing it with Romo, but this would be like the Cowboys doing it with Aikman.

Saturday's older than dirt
but he’s still considered to be a damn good center.
Then again, reputations often last longer than talent in the NFL.
Diem’s a pretty solid guy and Castonzo should be good, although the other two spots might be bad. Didn’t realize they’d lost some talent there.

When the Pats lost Brady for the year
I was ready to throw in the towel, but they still won 11 games. I don’t think the Colts are as complete a team as the 2008 Pats, and Cassel is better than Collins… but the talent built around elite quarterbacks is still talent, even when the elite QB is gone.

I'm not expecting them to do as well as that team
I’d probably pencil them in for 6-7 wins this year, provided Manning doesn’t play. I still don’t see any way they’ll be worse than fucking Jacksonville.

God, Jacksonville produces the best sideline moments.
"You're failing Seymour; what is it with you and failure?"
If Manning doesn't play this year....they go 4-12.
That’s an old team.

I think I'd set the O/U at 6.5 without any Manning.

I would not take that bet for more than a few bucks, or a one week sig change.

Yeah, don't be siding with FO projections.
I’m interested in them, but they don’t beat the Marcels of football, so. . .

http://www.advancednflstats.com/2010/07/pre-season-predictions-are-still.html
The second benchmark is a very simple formula based on a regression from the previous season win totals for each team. The formula is 6 plus a quarter of last year’s wins. For example, a 12-win team from 2009 would be predicted to have 6 + 12/4 = 9 wins in 2010. I call simple methods like this ‘Koko the Monkey,’ named after George Costanza’s unflattering nickname at Kruger Industrial Smoothing.
So how did the coma patient and Koko the monkey compare to FO’s predictions for 2009? Football Outsiders’ predictions don’t fare very well. In fact, the CoMA predictions are no worse in general and slightly more accurate in terms of MAE. Koko the Monkey is easily the most accurate of the three systems. This is a notable result because it suggests that Football Outsiders’ predictions are so bad, they are literally worse than having no football knowledge at all. It’s like negative information, draining us of insight.
SB Nation Dallas-Ft. Worth - Christopher Fittz is better than porn!
I know a guy who insists FO is better at projections than stuff like ZiPS or (when Silver was around) PECOTA.
He bases it on the methodology — he likes that FO tries to account for everything, even if they haven’t bothered to test whether it’s something you need to account for — and by picking individual projections that are impressive, rather than looking at the whole picture.
The year PECOTA projected the Rays to win 90 games, he was pissed as hell (actually angry in real life) because they did not have an arbitrary “no previous success” penalty of 5-10 games.

Hahaha
that’s why I hate the “but they’ve never/always had success in the past!” types of arguments.
Anger logic's so great I kinda forget what we saw in regular logic in the first place.
I could not get through to him.
I could not get him to understand that there might be something to “no past success,” but unless he could how how much it should be expected to affect a team, it shouldn’t be included. You don’t just make up things that sound reasonable and then plug them in.
SB Nation Dallas-Ft. Worth - Christopher Fittz is better than porn!

so that’ll probably cost them 2-3 wins right there."

Wow...
Well, that’s kinda interesting. Now I know not to look at FO for projections…
Anger logic's so great I kinda forget what we saw in regular logic in the first place.
Ok, but I think there's a signficant caveat there.
IIRC, that was the year FO admittedly had a terrible projection year.
There are some significant issues with FO and I would never view them with the same confidence as baseball stats, but I think they’re unfortunately some of the best available.
Also, I feel like there’s something to be gained by reading the insight of a bunch of guys who watch tons of football games with an analytical approach.
"I’d love to walk in and hug everybody every day, but that’s not critical to us winning." - Jon Daniels
I think I can say that FO projections aren't worth a whole lot and say that FO is one of the best football sites out there in the same breath.
And if they stopped pursuing what they thought could be interesting and informative because someone might eventually point out how flawed it was, their potential advancements would only be stifled.
Hey look, another subthread crossover.
SB Nation Dallas-Ft. Worth - Christopher Fittz is better than porn!
I'm thinking about a 3-4 win drop off from Manning to Collins.

3 rookies and a guy with a decent season on his resume?
McCoy, all day. I think Cam flops with the Panthers, and Dalton depends on if his OL can pass block/Benson helps take the pressure off of him. Asking quite a bit there.
"You're failing Seymour; what is it with you and failure?"
Dalton has Benson and AJ Green so he is in the best position to succeed
But yeah it all depends if he can stay upright
Yeah, + Shipley and Gresham, who aren't too shabby options either.
That OL looks rough.
"You're failing Seymour; what is it with you and failure?"
And so did Dalton's deep throws.

Yeah, he's never had supreme touch on his deep throws.
But that might be ok, for this year anyway. Bengals are in trouble if he has to attempt more than 2-3 30+ yard throws a game. His accuracy on short to intermediate gains has always been his strong suit. Dude is money to about 20-25 yards.
"You're failing Seymour; what is it with you and failure?"
Yeah,
but that negates one of the advantages they have in AJ.

I'd imagine the 2-3 balls he does throw deep every game would all be to AJ anyway.
Plus, Green is a pretty good possession receiver in his own right. He can do damage on some 7 yard slant with soft coverage and 5 yards of open space to work with. Just has to get the dropsies out of the way.
"You're failing Seymour; what is it with you and failure?"
what about 10-15 yard out routes? umm.. no.

Small sample size, but that's been his bread and butter play to Shipley, at least pre-season.
Most of those throws are fine to him, because Shipley gets such good separation on his cuts.

Right,
but that doesn’t mean he’s NFL ready. It means that his ceiling makes it worth the risk.

I think under petrinos NFL offense he would be able to adjust fairly easy.
looked great in pre-season with NE too… its a shame he wont see playing time in the forseeable future barring injury to Brady
Anyways, I just think hes a better QB right now than Dalton, Newton, and given a few games McCoy.

I guess. He seemed like the type of guy who needs time to develop.
In the past, he would have been exactly what NFL types were looking for. But as the NFL offenses go more and more to high volume passing systems, the type of QB he is becomes less valuable.
I’m not saying he will definitely be bad or has no value to teams. I just think he would have needed to end up on a run heavy team like NYJ or Balt to succeed early.

He's more talented than all those except for Newton, no doubt
but better QB? That requires more than just a great arm, lest we forget JaMarcus Russell and dozens of others. Sitting behind Brady will serve him well.
"You're failing Seymour; what is it with you and failure?"
russell also had a 2c head...
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?

Some of the same stuff being said about Mallett.
"You're failing Seymour; what is it with you and failure?"
Note, I'm not saying Mallett = Russell, straight up.
Just that the bust potential would be high if anyone played him early. Letting him sit and absorb a year or two will help him immensely, long term.

mallett's issue is not on the field though
he “gets” football, he just doesnt get class or go
mallett has a significantly better NFL career than russell, almost for sure to me.
i agree that he ended up in a GREAT situation (like you said) btw

I don't think that is true.
Anger logic's so great I kinda forget what we saw in regular logic in the first place.
what?
the arm or the audible?
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.
The audible
He may have been able to check to a run/pass in many situations but I really, really doubt he had that much of a free reign.
Anger logic's so great I kinda forget what we saw in regular logic in the first place.
hmm that was my impression but a quick google doesnt agree totally with me
He would be given a play to call in the huddle, and at the same time he would be given another play or two that he could audible to at the line of scrimmage depending on what the defense showed him
Was trusted to make the pre-snap audible based on the strength and weakness of formation
he had a LOT of freedom. i shouldnt have said total but there were many times he went from run to pass and pass to run…
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.
What sources are saying these things?
Anger logic's so great I kinda forget what we saw in regular logic in the first place.
random places i came across
mostly from NFL preview kinds of stories
nothing from espn/scout/etc or i would have listed — BUT i know i heard numerous times on the radio from people who did know in arkansas who said he had a LOT of freedom to audible at the line.
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.
Yeah, but I don't really listen to those types of people
If a coach says it, I’ll listen. Otherwise, a big grain of salt.

I know that.
I’m just saying, I tend to take those things with a large grain of salt unless it’s an actual coach. For one thing, chances are that most of the checks were things like “if you see only one safety deep, check pass” which does not necessarily imply a whole lot about Mallett’s abilty to audible etc.

They would be crazy not to extend him
Dude would command top billing on the FA market… and they might not be able to keep him then…
Ahem CJ.
If knowledge is power, why does Stephen Hawking need batteries?
I don't think they should have extended CJ last year...

Really...
How so? or I guess more so… why?
If knowledge is power, why does Stephen Hawking need batteries?
At the time
I don’t imagine they were sure how a full year of starter’s innings would take their toll on CJ, having been a reliever for so long
In hindsight, sure, everyone here would like to have extended CJ earlier in the year, but at the time there was really no way to know how good he would be this year
Correct.
Even outside of the fatigue, you had one year’s worth of data. What if he put up a 2011 Colby Lewis?
"I’d love to walk in and hug everybody every day, but that’s not critical to us winning." - Jon Daniels
I thought he shouldve been resigned for whatever starters amount we could get him for
I know I was in the minority but my thought process was that he has low mileage on the arm and the dude is a smart, hard worker
Even if he lost some MPH on his stuff he is a premium LHP, smart enough to be the KRogers/Leiter type
Guy has dealt with high pressure situations and seems to be content in TX
All this was pre this year and his success this year clearly gives him the upperhand now but I still think he is worth it
If knowledge is power, why does Stephen Hawking need batteries?
But even if you thought he'd be healthy,
you have no idea how good he’d end up being. I projected him at something like 3.75 WAR this year because of regression. When you project out 3+ years down the road, how confident are you going to be given you’re projecting multiple years based of one year of starting data?
What if he is/was a true talent 2.5-3.0WAR pitcher who just had a great first year? Even if there was no age-related decline, you’d be overpaying him at 4 years/60M or whatever.

I don't know
Scandrick’s a much better bet to be decent for the life of the contract. Ratliff will almost certainly be cut after year 2, 3, or if miracles fly down from the sky 4.

Would you like a 10hr M-Tr schedule or a 9hr M-Tr, 4hr F schedule?
I go back on forth on it. I don’t think I’d want 10hrs.
I've done the 10 hrs
Also done a 9 hour and you get every-other-friday off. That was probably my favorite. The difference in workday length was easy to get used to, but you never took that Friday for granted.

"I’d love to walk in and hug everybody every day, but that’s not critical to us winning." - Jon Daniels
Now that I'll probably be flying more than when I was in school I wonder if it would be worthwhile to have an airline CC instead of a cashback one.
What's the cashback rate?
"I’d love to walk in and hug everybody every day, but that’s not critical to us winning." - Jon Daniels
Then it's about the same, depending on how you fly.
$25K=25K points, which is usually one RT ticket. You can play with the numerator, but if you assume a ticket is ~$300 then that’s 1.2% back. [Realize that when you use miles to fly, you still end up spending $60 per RT ticket]
"I’d love to walk in and hug everybody every day, but that’s not critical to us winning." - Jon Daniels
"[Realize that when you use miles to fly, you still end up spending $60 per RT ticket]"
Ew, icky. I didn’t realize that.
I’d need to be flying more expensive routes to make that worthwhile.
I can't decide whether to be insanely jealous or filled with rage
Probably both.
Incidentally, that’s why I’ve calculated this. Our apt wanted to charge us ~3%, so I had to do the math.
It gets more complicated than this when you look at your specific situation, but I feel like most of the other factors end up washing out.

I've got a problem with them
when they’re nothing but flip flops being passed off a sandal fit for professional office attire.
But, it’s jeans friday, so I’ll let it slide for today.

Ties.
Effing Ties. I like how cool some look, but they are the most uncomfortable things ever.
Besides, most places don’t require pantyhose anymore.

They should go independent.
"I'll text AJM a picture of my junk if he wants to use it" by ab03 on Jul 7, 2011 9:30 PM CDT
The other Big 12 schools weren't going to sue A&M.
They were going to sue the SEC, right?
I imagine if A&M tries to do an end run, the SEC would still get sued. Any obvious end run will be obvious.
"I'll text AJM a picture of my junk if he wants to use it" by ab03 on Jul 7, 2011 9:30 PM CDT
Well I mean they couldn't really sue the SEC if A&M was coming from independency.
I mean they could, but it might be more difficult.
Sure they could.
And they could argue that A&M only left because they had a per-arranged deal to join the SEC.
Unless A&M wants to wait until the Big 12 actually breaks up… but the SEC still might get sued.
"I'll text AJM a picture of my junk if he wants to use it" by ab03 on Jul 7, 2011 9:30 PM CDT

well, you can always get sued for anything
Go Rice Owls!
Would be a Matt Harrison fan, but I only like superstars
The SEC wont let them in unless the Big 12 schools sign the waiver
If A&M leaves they still wont sign the waiver. The Big 12 leaving would only be until the statute of limitations for TI runs out and they can go to the SEC without the SEC fearing they will be sued
this is probably a good way out though
the SEC wants nothing to do with A&M if Baylor sues. But they can always take the Aggies in a couple of years once the Big XII breakup is in the rearview mirrow. And that’d give the SEC a year or two to find an ideal 14th team.
Go Rice Owls!
Would be a Matt Harrison fan, but I only like superstars
The year as independent would be an epic disaster, though.

no seriously it served the purpose
alleviated my boredom allow me to share a post agswin2001:
Okay, so I just called Waffle House’s corporate office and spoke to Gina in the Real Estate office. I inquired as to our lack of a WH here in the B/CS area, and explained very politely that it is too far to drive to Conroe when I need a fix.
She states that there are no plans to build any additional Waffle House restaurants in TEXAS for at least 2 years, and they are not currently adding any franchise owners. I explained that it was very important that our Fightin’ Texas Aggie Football players had somewhere to eat waffles and hashbrowns after beatin’ the hell out of their opponents – she laughed, but I don’t think she thought I was serious.
I asked what we could as the Aggie community do to change WH’s stance on the subject, and she said nothing. I asked her would they be willing to reconsider if 100,000 Aggies called, emailed, rioted etc. She said that would probably delay any expansion because it would probably just p—- the decision makers off.
Eventually, she gave me the name of her boss and said that if I would like to have a more in-depth conversation about it, to drop him an email.
I figured I would share it with you, since it sounds like we’re not getting a Waffle House anyways.

Multiple league sources confirmed Sunday that Texas lawmakers, including Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, are preparing to take a more active role in determining whether Texas A&M should head to the Southeastern Conference and whether Texas should join Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech as part of a four-school move to an expanded Pac-12.
One league source said Sunday that the anticipated interest from lawmakers probably “has more to do with Texas” than A&M because a Longhorns move to the Pac-12 — if finalized — could kill the Big 12. A&M announced plans Wednesday to withdraw from the Big 12, pending an invitation to the SEC.
Dewhurst’s office said he is following the situation.
“Lt. Gov. Dewhurst’s primary focus is to ensure the best possible outcome for all Texas universities,” said Dewhurst spokesperson Mike Walz in an e-mail response to questions from the Star-Telegram.
