Arsène Wenger believes Andrey Arshavin showed his class with his assist for Robin van Persie’s winner against QPR – arsenal.com/news/news-arch…

Well, I'll be

A brief Football Manager aside: reserve team got an invite to the NextGen series (the new junior Champions League) and went on to win the whole damned tournament. Unlike the senior squad, which lost 4 of its 6 Europa group stage matches, and failed to advance.

First trophy earned by the club, and it’s the kids who do it. Hopefully a few of them are ready for the first team soon- we need reinforcements.

Aw, shit, ya'll

Season three is almost over- two matches left to play, and we have a chance to win both the league and the Russian Cup. Just have to beat Spartak and CSKA to do the double…

And it's over

League: lost 2-0 to Spartak, who retained the RPL title.

Russian Cup: fell behind on an early goal to CSKA, but fought back, and won 3-2 on a late goal by young winger Tiberiu Serediuc.

Would have been nice to have won the double, but 2nd place and the Russian Cup will do. And we’ve signed our first legitimate Russian star- Diniyar Bilyaletdinov is joining the club on a free transfer.

Now to sit back, scout the 2014 World Cup, and get ready for season four and our first foray into the Champions League- two qualifying rounds await, so it’s gonna be a short summer break!

What's his beef?

The second yellow on Djourou I guess? Don’t really know how you can argue with that, it was clearly a foul. It’s rather lame to criticize the ref. Fulham showed a lot of heart and fought back well in the second half.

Not mediocre. Right about average

by trza on Jan 3, 2012 9:36 AM CST up reply actions

The second yellow

was a “foul” if by foul you mean by barely touching a player and that player diving constitutes a foul. That ref had let much worse go the entire game then calls a ticky tack foul.

by jf55510 on Jan 3, 2012 9:56 AM CST up reply actions

2nd yellow

It was a relatively soft foul, but Djourou put himself in a bad spot by reaching up to hold onto Zamora. It was one of those plays wherein whichever way the ref calls it, one team is going to be very unhappy with the call. I can understand being upset with the call, but the fault lies with Djourou in my opinion.

Not mediocre. Right about average

by trza on Jan 3, 2012 10:15 AM CST up reply actions

Well

Djourou put himself in a bad spot. Futher, assume it was a foul, it wasn’t in a position that warranted a second yellow that’s for damn sure. There were more defenders around, he wasn’t free to the goal, he wasn’t in the box, it didn’t deserve a yellow, at most a free kick, more likely no foul.

by jf55510 on Jan 3, 2012 1:23 PM CST up reply actions

I don't think that it was a foul

and it decided the game, but I do think Fulham probably deserved what they got, given the way both sides responded to the red card.

by Brett Perryman on Jan 3, 2012 5:48 PM CST up reply actions

Depth

So, will this be the game that makes Arsene realize he doesn’t have enough depth on the team and that he can’t run out Arteta, RVP, Ramsey, Theo and Gervinho every game and expect to win? Also, once Gervinho and Song leave for AC, the terrible depth is even worse. Spend some fucking money.

by jf55510 on Jan 2, 2012 5:40 PM CST reply actions

Heh

So, yeah, Liverpool is losing 2-0 to City right now. And this note from the Soccernet commentary amused me:

Liverpool need to ensure they don’t concede another before half time – there would be no way back at 3-0.

Nope. Completely impossible. Liverpool has never overcome a three-goal deficit against a team with the quality of Man City. Just can’t be done.

"Those cocksuckers asking me if I thought we were gonna go up there and try to work his fuckin’ pitch count ‘cause he’s on three fuckin’ days rest…you know what I told those cocksuckers? He pitch ball, ball cross plate, we gonna knock the shit out of it."

Got their “Next” issue in the mail today, and who got a nice little write-up? FC Dallas’ own Brek Shea!

Good to see him getting some national attention, even though he’ll probably be off to some club like Brondby or Plymouth Argyle before long. Hoops also signed Panamanian international Blas Perez today. Castillo and Luna have a lot of promise, but a veteran goal-scorer was much needed.

United

The position of goalkeeper was a total mess for Manchester United during the years between Schmeichel’s retirement and Van Der Sar’s acquisition. Part of the problem was due to bad signings (Barthez, Carroll), but part was due to Fergie’s very short leash (I’m imagine United fans would prefer Tim Howard to either De Gea or Lindergaard). Could United be entering a similarly trying time at the position?

GK is literally the least of my concerns.

Our defense is shaky without Vidic, and that their second best defender (Smalling) is out too doesn’t help much. The midfield is a complete pisstake. Carrick’s fine, but he’s being partnered by a revolving cast of shit. People are actually starting to press the midfield relentlessly, which completely exposes the wingers (Park, Giggs) we’ve been trying to pass off as midfielders.

De Gea might not pan out, but Lindegaard is rock solid. I have no concern there whatsoever. The rest of the team needs fixing…badly. They’ll get stomped by City in the FA Cup, so maybe that will spur some activity.

Somehow I’d missed that he’d come out of retirement. Do you think he was at fault for City’s second goal? It wasn’t the best touch, but Evra seemed to be a little slow getting to it.

I for one cannot wait ‘til Mark Hughes quits QPR five months from now because he believes he’s about to be hired, via time machine, to manage the 1990 AC Milan team. Hughes looks like he’s on the verge of replacing Neil Warnock at QPR, but I wouldn’t get too attached. Hughes might very well keep Queens Park up, but he, and his “adviser” Kia Joorabchian (who also “advises” Carlos Tevez), will soon be looking for a more high-profile gig.

Random FM Question

How is injury proneness determined? RVP has played 2 games for me through the 1/31 transfer window and so I haven’t offered him a new contract yet because I don’t want to pay him 200k/wk uf he is going to be so injury prone. I don’t know if I’m just unlucky this go around or if it is a problem with him. BTW, Chamak is a stud in this game 22 goals for me.

It's a hidden attribute

You can get your scouts to occasionally tell you about it, but that depends on your scouts.

by Outworlder47 on Jan 11, 2012 5:55 PM CST up reply actions

Yep

I know you can view it by using a third-party program like FM Real Time Editor (FMRTE) or Genie Scout, but otherwise, your scouts will sometimes mention if a player is injury prone.

I feel you with RVP. My vice-captain at Krasnodar, Nikola Drincic, spent half of last season on the sidelines with various injuries. Which sucked, because he’s a great free-kick taker, and the guys who filled in for him aren’t nearly as adept at putting the ball on goal.

Ive been in contact with his agent for a few months now and even he couldn’t quite tell me why the Blackburn move fell apart. It wasn’t the surgery thing, he didn’t fail a physical. I think a deal to sell Chris Samba fell apart so they couldn’t afford him.

The west ham deal is a loan to buy thing and I think even Dallas fans are hoping it happens.
