Yeah
Engel acts like Boras is the only agent trying to make money.
Engel also acts like he’s not in the business of selling advertising.

I don't know, but...
he better be careful commenting on ESPN.com/Dallas reporter JJT. Sweetspot!
Go Rangers! Go Cowboys! Go FSU!
One of the Sweetspot blogs was dismissed by ESPN recently
because of some articles they wrote. I don’t remember the circumstances, but it was a clear case of having said something the WWL didn’t like. The blog responded with a “meh” and carried on. I think Joey would do the same, but I doubt he’s in any danger. He’s criticizing JJT, not the company policies or practices.

fuck em
Seriously. I know these people. Not all these people specifically, but journalists have the thinnest skins on planet earth. They’re all screaming like stuck pigs because their profession is going down the toilet because of the internet and smarter people being able to voice opinions now. The collective knowledge on LSB is phenomenal. I know Evan Grant has said that his goal is to write for the readers here, but he simply can’t cut it. That’s not to disparage Evan Grant. He really is a good guy. He gets ripped here and sometimes it’s deserved, sometimes it’s not. He is what he is, and in the old media world that sufficed. (In his case it more than sufficed, he was a very good beat reporter in the eyes of the old beat reporter world people.) Today it’s different. EG can’t compete against all the stuff laid out at LSB – but neither can one person at LSB. No one person anywhere can. The only thing the pros have against anyone here and other similar sites is access to players. That’s it. They can call up Joe Blow and say – hey, what do you think of this? Otherwise, they sit at their desks and write glorious bullshit like this Engel column. He deserved to have it called out like it was, and he was called out like a pro. Thumbs up, Joey M.

Yeah, I was actually making light
of that other blog being dismissed.
Go Rangers! Go Cowboys! Go FSU!
If it's the one I read about
I think it may have been an Astros blog, maybe not. But they were calling a bunch of ESPN and other sports writers alleged plagiarists because said writers were saying Bagwell shouldn’t get in the hall because of the era he played in despite there being 0 real evidence that Bagwell himself did roids. The reasoning was that many sports writers break the same stories around the same time, and though there is no evidence the ripped each other’s stories off, there was just as much evidence that they did plagiarize as there is evidence Bagwell did steroids. It was a satirical piece that a lot of people misunderstood and they ended up getting dismissed because of it.
Not an Astros blog, but the Bagwell thing was part of it
I found it, it was The Platoon Advantage.

i blame mathes for this...
reading anything with Engel in the byline and expect coherence is a bad idea…. just say no to reader-bating.
"Anyone that isn't pro-choice never met you" ~Brian Thomas on Seth...
This pretty much sums up the entire article
That’s nothing short of an insult to one of the best baseball operations departments in the game.
I loop the “don’t ever speak with Friedman about trades” argument in with the “don’t ever negotiate with Boras” argument.
Maybe this is a stretch...
but aren’t there some underlying socialist parallels to the point Engel is making here? I definitely feel like he crosses to the extent that he vilifies Boras.
Go Rangers! Go Cowboys! Go FSU!
Possibly dumb question
But is Mac Engel any relation to the little ball of hate?
Football can go to hell. The Rangers aren't ready for football season and neither am I.

I have no love for Boras...
but the Rangers did sign Beltre last year, so they have been able to deal with Boras. Somehow it seems like Mac is overlaying Jerry Jones in place of the Rangers front office. J.D. and Nolan and company seem to have a better record that Jerry does in the last decade! I get tired of the Cowboys/football mentality being applied to the Rangers and baseball.
