The Rangers Rotation: An embarrassment of riches?
Hey, ballers. I wrote about the Yu Darvish signing and the franchise's overall commitment to stacking lots and lots of pitching talent.

I sometimes think this is unreal.
We are currently trying to decide which pitcher we should leave out of our roto: a guy who made it to the All-Star Game last year as a starter, or a dude who put up a 4+ WAR season last year.
How things can change in mere 5, 6 years.

it's hard to believe that the DVD trio from 2006-ish year
has had nothing to do with this remarkable accumulation of talent.

What is funny
We are more worried about the 4 and 5 guys in the roto versus the top of the roto.
Josh Hamilton: "I just show up, look at the lineup and play where I’m told. If they want me to catch, I’ll catch."
Jon Daniels on relationship with #Rangers Young: "I’d love to walk in and hug everybody every day, but that’s not critical to us winning." 2/19/11
I'm pretty worried about the top of the roto
I’m pretty worried about the whole roto. High variance.
I'm confident
but still cautious. I want to see that Holland has turned the corner completely, and that Colby has recovered from his injury properly and that Harrison can still read.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
the key is that there are options
so even if someone falls on their face, the odds that everyone falls on their face is highly unlikely.

I wonder how much of an option Ogando is
if he starts out in the bullpen and gets a key role, will the Rangers really move him into the rotation if others fail? I feel like the options are
1) Feldman
2) Neil Ramirez
3) Martin Perez
Anybody doubt that?
It depends how we use him, imo
I feel like long men make the transition back to the roto fairly easily.
If we’re using Ogando in 2-3 inning stints like we were in the playoffs, do you think he’d have a better chance to transition back?
I doubt we do that in the regular season though
In the playoffs its easier because you know when the next game he may pitch is and you aren’t worried as much about tiring him out because its the end of the season.
I think for the regular season we’ll use Alexi in a “fireman” type role and I agree with ab that the options for starters are Feldman, Perez, and Ramirez should the need arise. I also wouldn’t be shocked if we stashed some veteran in AAA for the first month or two in case multiple injuries pop up so we dont have to rush Ramirez and/or Perez
Yep
Which is why our depth is so great. Very low chance that all 5 pitchers fail, and we can replace 3-4 with fairly decent internal options.
And that’s not even counting the strong ability to trade for a #5, if need be, based on our ridiculous minor league depth.
They shouldn't be embarassed by it.
If I had a twelve-inch dick, I’d always choose the urinal right in between the two other guys.
