Durrett: How the Rangers landed Yu Darvish
History of the Rangers' scouting of Darvish dating back to when Darvish was in high school, the presentation the front office did to ownership to substantiate the reasoning behind bidding on Darvish, and the Rangers' negotiations and wooing of Darvish and his family.

Great stuff.
Have I mentioned how much I love our front office?

Our front office is so awesome.
Josh Hamilton: "I just show up, look at the lineup and play where I’m told. If they want me to catch, I’ll catch."
Jon Daniels on relationship with #Rangers Young: "I’d love to walk in and hug everybody every day, but that’s not critical to us winning." 2/19/11
it is
Good to see Josh Boyd quoted in the story. He knows his shit. It ain’t just the top guy. This is a FO with deep talent, I hope they can keep them together for a long time.

I like this
Darvish is so dedicated to his conditioning that he worked out in the middle of his ballpark tour.
Perseverance isn't just the willingness to work hard. It's that, plus the willingness to be stubborn about your own belief in yourself."

Love it.
I really hope Yu not only succeeds but also enjoys his time here in the USA. Seems like a very disciplined, well-respected role-model type guy who could really influence the DFW area.
Yup.
That’s a pot leaf.

No... he didn't test for it.
He was found in possession of it by police.
MLB does not test players on the 40 man roster for marijuana.

He has small face
Not to be confused with dumb face, small face is when your face-to-facial area ratio is out of proportion.
If I had a gun to my head and had to pick one pitcher to pitch a game to save my life.... I'd pick 1999 Rick Helling.

Nah, they'll just buy him when he becomes a FA.
That’s what they do, you know.

Pretty good little story

Has there been anything close to this kind of reporting in the DMN or Star-Telegram?
Maybe there has been and I’ve just missed it as a result of not living in the Metrolplex anymore.
But it really seems like the Star Telegram and Morning News reporters and columnists never provide reporting like this. I get the distinct impression that they are lazy bunch who put little effort into cultivating and fostering the kind of network of sources necessary to provide real insight and a real inside look into the operation of the club.
your impression is correct
Durrett used to work for the DMN, but that paper has gone down the toilet like every other paper out there. The best baseball analyzing/reporting is online, and it’s often not the pros, it’s normal people who just love the game, like on this site. Even the daily aggregation AJM does beats the shit out of any media outlet around here. The papers can’t even muster something as simple as that on their online versions. And I don’t mean simple in a bad way, nor do I mean there is no work involved in rounding that stuff up. I just mean having a nice little daily summary is a no-brainer helpful good thing for fans.
LSB is the only place I come to for Rangers news because people love the team and they know what they’re talking about, or if they don’t, or don’t have time to, someone will say – here’s a link that explains it. And compared to other fan sites, it’s really hard to top LSB. I’m not saying that just because I like it or the team, this place truly is high quality with a lot of activity.

yep
Durrett is easily my favorite beat writer these days.
He does a good job

Yes, he has vastly improved since leaving the DMN
And on that note, does the DMN have one of the worst mobile sites on earth, or what? I have seen content that didn’t change for 48 hours, how terrible.

Thought Durrett was ST?
I always liked his stuff there.

Of all the links on morning Ranger stop...
Durrett is the one I will always read. He gives solid information. Following up on others leaving newspapers, Richard Justice just left the Chronicle in Houston and is now working for MLB. He says the early deadlines kept him from doing his job on reporting baseball. So in many ways, the newspapers are being wiped out for sports information, even though they have an internet presence.
Yep, Durrett is good
I always like his interviews, too.
