It snowed once before Christmas break, and that didn’t even stick for a full day (it warmed up and started raining later in the day, turning everything to slush before melting by the next morning). Now it’s in this cycle of “get cold, snow a fair amount, warm up to 40-50, repeat” that’s just very odd.

One of my favorite things about moving here from Wisconsin
is that it would snow and then the snow would go away and you’d have at least some days in the 40s with some sun. The unrelenting cold and gray (at best) hunks of packed snow lining the sidewalks and frozen to the underside of my car was hard to take.
That's basically the way it's been in St. Louis, except it's been warming up to the 60s.
We had freezing rain last evening, which kind of sucked, but we still have grass with some green. This is more like a Dallas Winter.

But code is code, really. The first language is always the hardest. And even in aerospace you’ll probably need to know a lot more programming stuff in the future, really.
I know basic coding stuff
But it’s more “here’s a problem, write a code to solve it” than “develop a program for other people to use.” Although actually I am doing something along those lines this semester, albeit on a much smaller scale, by adapting a code I wrote for a project last semester to (hopefully) be useful in the future to our DBF team.

The first scenario is really common IME.
Even when working on a program for clients, you usually aren’t building a whole new thing from scratch single-handedly.
No, but I still feel like there's some seperation
between coding something for you to use personally, and coding something for other people to use. For one, if it’s your own code to solve a problem, it’s often a one-off and can be a fucking mess (not that I ever sacrifice good programming practice……….)

I certainly never do either...
The biggest thing I’ve learned there is that version 1 always sucks. But before writing version 1 you don’t really know what it needs to do, cause you’re clients will take a look at it and say “hmm, maybe this should do this instead…” so there’s no point trying to have it polished out the gate.
I'm actually looking forward to trying to adapt this code
Generalize it, comment it to make sure people understand what it’s doing, etc.
I guess that’s another difference… a lot of our coding is in Matlab, so the user can actually interact with the source code itself pretty easily (and sometimes has to to use the program). I would assume that’s not generally the case in your field?

It is to a degree on the web. All Javascript that runs in the browser is inherently visible to the users (see stuff like ab03+match's trollscript),
and a lot of the back-end stuff is in dynamic, not-pre-compiled languages too. The “user” doesn’t use them, but other developers can fuck with it easily to figure stuff out.

We also do a lot of statistical stuff with big data (billions of records type stuff).

And like a few people mentioned.. I like having seasons.. San Diego is not the place for that. Also, maybe it’s because I’m used to Texas, but the summers are too chilly for me. You can’t even really enjoy the best part about SD, which is the beach. It has to be at least high 70’s and sunny or it’s just way too cold and windy. Don’t even think about getting in the water if the sun isn’t out. Surprisingly, it’s not as sunny on the coast as one would think.

I'm told it's about to be rainy for a month or two, but it's been sunny up here in Ventura since mid-November.
I can do the beach when it’s in the sixties and windy. But swimming in the ocean has never been my favorite part of the beach, anyway.

April – October really is what I was counting. End of April through beginning of October is pretty much a miserable season with a smattering of nice days at the ends, but not always.

Seasons should be more or less three months each. It’s how weather should be. That way you’re never sick of a season and one is never too short.

Summer here had way more variation (although apparently it was one of the hottest summers on record, so I’m not sure that’s normal). Plus it’s more humid here, which sucks. Much rather 102 feels like 105 than 95 feels like 115 (yes, we had that. I played ultimate frisbee in it.)

Last summer was horrible.
Over 100 days of 100+ degree heat. I am not a fan of humidity, but at least when it is humid you can sweat. There is nothing you can do when it is 107-108 with a dry, boiling 25 mph or more wind out of the SW. We had way too many days like that last summer.
I've been through both, and I prefer 107 to a 20 degree heat index.

107 may have been on the low side.
Probably more in the 110 to 117 range. With it being so dry and the soil being higher then that. The heat is all around you, even with clothes on it feels like your skin is on fire. But unlike the desert, the soil doesn’t lose heat quickly at night so it never really cools off.
Again, native Texan. Been there, done that.

I was a lifeguard for the three summers before this past one, so I am used to being outside in the heat.
And again, summer here was apparently very abnormally hot, so probably in general it wouldn’t be as bad. But specifically, that was perhaps the worst day in terms of heat that I’ve ever had.

I will admit, I prefer the low humidity of the Panhandle to east Texas humidity or the high humidity of any other place. I can’t contrast where you were at last summer with Childress, TX because I don’t know where you where at and never lived where ever you were at. But unless you spent the 2011 summer in Childress, I don’t think you have:

Harry plays 4-4-2 and doesn’t deviate much from that formation. With that, you have 2 of Modric/Parker/Sandro at CM (obviously all 3 would be preferred to Dempsey), Lennon/Bale on the wings (both would be picked over Dempsey), Adebayor as the target man and VDV in a free role. Now, that’s not to say Dempsey wouldn’t get time given the injury potential of that team, but he definitely wouldn’t start if everyone was healthy.
Defoe wants out because he’s not getting as much time as he wants.

Finally had Five Guys last night.
Legitimately extremely good. Probably the best fast food burger I’ve ever had, maybe by a good margin, and I liked how easy it was to customize. And, yes, the fries are god tier; I was sad to see them go.
That said, it probably wasn’t good enough for me to want to pay that price often just for a burger. I can get better for not much more at some table service places, plus the whole table service thing, and I can make better at home for way cheaper. I think I’ll be making the fries a regular snack, though.
Also, unless this location did things differently, you guys liked to me about how many fries they give you. Not even close to too many.

I’m as angry about what happened with Sandusky as anyone (except the parents of the victims). The actions of everyone involved are reprehensible. There is no defense to not protecting those kids. I don’t want to start a huge argument about this, the Pennsylvania law, or what Paterno should have done. You guys know how I feel about the need to protect our children above all else.
But this kind of vitriol directed at the man on his deathbed is too far. This is hatred of a man that made a mistake. Yes it was an awful, terrible, horrible, life-altering mistake, but it was a mistake. Forgiveness exists even in this type of situation.
Of course I say that as an outsider and it is easier for me to do so. If it were my kid who he didn’t intervene to help, I would be singing a different tune. I just think this kind of hatred for a man that was by all accounts a good guy other than this awful set of events is too far. I may be alone in that and I’m seriously not trying to start anything with anyone.

Is that from what we know, an entire town’s law enforcement put a football program above the law and above the protection of these children. That’s the most despicable part of it all.
