Adrian Beltre Bobblehead

Img_1367_medium

Everyone at Lone Star Ball has been very helpful with suggestions for promotional giveaways the past couple of years and we have had a couple of success stories. Quite a few wanted an Adrian Beltre Bobblehead for 2012 with him swinging on one knee. Attached is a preview photo of that bobblehead. We added a silver bat and then a gold glove down by the ground of the bobblehead to salute his accomplishments from 2011. This bobblehead will be given away to the first 30,000 on Saturday April 28th against Tampa Bay.

When i get the first preview photo of the Nolan Ryan Snow Monkey, I will try to post. The Snow Monkey giveaway is set for July 1st against the Oakland A's, only for the 1st 10,000 13 and under.

Again, thanks to everyone at Lone Star Ball, keep those requests, suggetions and ideas coming....I do my best to carry your voice into our planning and operational meetings. As always, if you have a question, problem or comment, please feel free to email me at anytime at cmorgan@texasrangers.com. I try to answer as many as I can.

I, along with everyone else with the ballclub, thank you for your support of the Rangers.

Thanks

Chuck

If they dont skip anyone (and everyone stays healthy)

It will be Colby

The Thursday before this game (the 26th) is a off day and they could skip the 5th starter spot to keep Colby on regular rest in which case the #2 starter would start the 28th. Those are the only two options I think are viable for the 28th

by bigsteve on Jan 23, 2012 5:38 PM CST up reply actions

Theres only 2 off days before the 28th. the first one falls on a day Colby, or whoever is the Opening Day starter, would go so we pretty much know that wont affect the rotation. And the other is the 26th which is the normal day for the 5th starter in the rotation. if they skip him then the #2 goes on the 28th, otherwise its the #1

Stash him at AAA and let him tear up the PCL if that’s what it comes down to. You wouldn’t have to trade Murphy and you wouldn’t necessarily count on Snider to be a big part of your team.

by Jobu. on Jan 23, 2012 7:14 PM CST up reply actions

It was a meh trade

I was not expecting much in trading Hunter and Davis. They might be of more use to the Orioles but neither one is worth a whole lot to the Rangers.

We’ll see what we get out of him. But if you were going to trade Hunter and Davis for prospects instead of a major leaguer, I don’t know that you could have done better than what the Rangers probably flipped Koji for.

by ab03 on Jan 23, 2012 7:15 PM CST up reply actions

That was a pretty good trade by the Rangers...

Koji’s a good pitcher. I was looking forward to seeing him bounce back and be part of that neat Ogando-Koji-Adams bridge to Nathan. I’d be pretty annoyed if the Rangers gave him away even if he wasn’t happy. But, I guess we’ll see.

by ghostofErikThompson on Jan 23, 2012 7:23 PM CST up reply actions

yeah

people are really down on him here, but he has been one of the best relievers in all of baseball the past 2 seasons. It would make our team weaker unless somehow, we were using that little saved money to bring Fielder here, then I don’t see a point to it. Plus, I hold value in the fact that he could help Darvish adjust to the big leagues.

A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.

by NothinG on Jan 23, 2012 7:55 PM CST up reply actions

Well with Nathan, Adams, and likely Ogando at the back end of the pen

Hes kinda become a luxury to have, at least for the full regular season.

We could probably go get a reliever at the deadline if we feel our pen needs more strength for the playoffs. And remember its likely that Feliz would go back to the pen in the playoffs at least in 2012 so that area is still pretty strong even if we do trade Koji

by bigsteve on Jan 23, 2012 7:59 PM CST up reply actions

Not at all, imo

Bullpen arms are fickle. Even aside from your common pitcher’s injury, their performances are high variance.

Nathan is anything but guaranteed, and if Ogando looks mediocre for whatever reason next season, our bullpen can easily become an area of need.

by Jobu. on Jan 23, 2012 8:13 PM CST up reply actions

Bullpen is also pretty easy to address in season

Having a 4 million dollar 6/7 inning guy and a late inning insurance policy is a luxury in April.

If we get into the season and things start going south then we have time to address that

by bigsteve on Jan 23, 2012 8:19 PM CST up reply actions

But mid-season we'll have to trade legitimate prospects for RP

So, if we are trading Uejara now, I’d rather get something legitimate in return

by Jobu. on Jan 23, 2012 8:24 PM CST up reply actions

bullpen may be easier to address

but why trade away a strength to possibly create a weakness. It’s not as though trading Erlin and Weiland wasn’t a big price (albeit one that our system could handle) to pay for Adams. I didn’t mind the Uehara cost, but still if you are going to trade a bullpen arm, trade him when you get the most value, and that is not now.

A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.

by NothinG on Jan 23, 2012 8:24 PM CST up reply actions

Just as a reminder to those that have forgotten

Koji struck out 35% of the batters he faced last season, and walked only 3.7%

by Jobu. on Jan 23, 2012 8:27 PM CST up reply actions

His value is definitely low right now

But if the Rangers do believe there is something mentally fucked up with him where he cant perform like he did in Baltimore why pay 4 million for him if you can dump him to someone else right now? And I dont know if he could gain any more trade value to make dealing him any better later on. if we did keep him and he pitched well then we wouldn’t be looking to deal him (which is a great thing we all hope happens). But if he continues struggling his trade value isn’t going to go up. if anything it’ll go down and we may have to pay someone to take him.

With Yu here we’ve all thought about how Koji could help him transition to MLB. But something that hasn’t been mentioned is the increased scrutiny Koji may face. Now with all the Japanese media following the Rangers around he could feel even more pressure and couple that with pitching in a uncomfortable environment and he could be a negative on the team on the field. I doubt he would be some clubhouse cancer or anything but he could hurt the team on the field.

by bigsteve on Jan 23, 2012 8:31 PM CST up reply actions

You seem to be making a lot of assumptions

about Koji’s mental capacity to compete, and what he has done on the field. Koji could fail, but he more likely than not, imo, will succeed.

A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.

by coolaid on Jan 23, 2012 8:20 PM CST up reply actions

Why?

We got Nathan for 2 years whereas Koji is only here for this year

As great as Koji was the past two years its undeniable he was bad here in his short span.

There have been reports, even when the trade went down, that he was unhappy leaving Baltimore and didn’t feel comfortable.

as much as we would love to think after the trade last year was just SSS its possible there is something mental up with him and the rangers know that and are trying to fix that by moving him. And they had the foresight to go out and grab Nathan early in the process where if they didn’t need to trade Koji it would have just meant a badass pen

Dream scenario

Unloading Uejara is what the Rangers need to be willing to pay Thornton

and add more prospects while they are at it...

I don't see how Thornton would be any better than Uehera

A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.

by NothinG on Jan 23, 2012 8:26 PM CST up reply actions

LHP is the main thing I like

His numbers are slightly better and wouldn’t have the HR concern. I’m assuming Thornton wouldn’t cost much in terms of prospects because of his cost (2/12)

by Jobu. on Jan 23, 2012 8:27 PM CST up reply actions

I love Thornton

but I don’t see him as an overall upgrade but I doubt that the ChiSox would trade him at this point for virtually nothing in terms of prospects. Those prospects are still likely chips we could use later for a real need.

He doesn't have much value to them on the field

And he’s not much value at 2/12 as a set up guy. They didn’t get much back for their closer who is pre-arb. I bet Ross would do it.

But, you’re right in that his K% is showing decline

Would it be a good PR thing to trade one of our Japanese players just as we get Yu?

I know it’s about having a better team, but I’m sure Yu liked having two Japanese teammates. I think that was one of the reasons he wanted to come here.

FO is

in the DR till the end of the week…. either Texas needs cash right now or TOR inittiated the talks… No need for.JD to make a.deal right.now….

so they just took the week off from business?

I bet JD is on his phone just as much while in the DR as he is while in Texas.

I bet if the Prince stuff got serious we could get the deal done even with JD down in the DR. It may affect the news conference or stuff but business doesn’t cease due to being in the Dominican

by bigsteve on Jan 23, 2012 8:40 PM CST up reply actions

Koji is

not a priority….. Either AA initiated the deal (which means we have the advantage) or the Rangers need the cash…

They worked out a Cuban defectr today… maybe they decided they need some $.. Regardless, there is no impetious to trade Koji and his value would only go up as the season gets close to starting….

It actually comes out as pretty neutral.

It’s hard for righties to hit home runs, though, and damn near impossible for lefties.

This is absolutely unacceptable!!

I have been listening to the Ticket and the fake Nolan ever since the beginning. Kids don’t have a damn clue about the history of the snow monkey.

The Snow Monkey giveaway is set for July 1st against the Oakland A’s, only for the 1st 10,000 13 and under.
