They would rank number one if I gave them credit for Darvish, but in my mind that is unfair to the other teams: I see him as a major league free agent, not a prospect.

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

The Show

Used it once. But your conclusion is consistent with most of what passes off as baseball analysis on the web.

I find it tedious to dig up data that is in plain sight for everyone to see. Besides, you can make numbers tell you anything you want. 1 day some heavily biased, entirely subjective defensive metric is an accurate measure of a player’s value, the next day it’s not. Another day someone is going to rely on a stat designed to foster medians, averages or correlations, without any reflection of variance, which will get passed of as the definitive measure of the quality of all things baseball.

I post contrarian theories, thoughts and conclusions because there’s no need to compete with the dozens of sources of the same old meme. Of course, you don’t want the point. Never did. You just want to express your sentiment in the form of rational thought, however irrational it might be. Most of what passes off as thought nowadays are just a manifestations of our biases.

Most arguments are really about context.

Had to find it...

“Big one – I said Juan Dominguez was going to be a stud major league pitcher and trading him was a giant mistake. Still remember his great outing v the Yanks in NY ’2004.

Another big one – Said Soriano would hit 45-55 HR in Texas. How the sonofabitch doesn’t do it in Texas but does it in DC still boggles my mind.

I said after 2007 that the Rangers should keep GLaird because I thought he was capable of bumping up his trade value (swing and a big miss).

I said the Rangers should have given Blalock a 3 year / $ 30 million deal before last season. TBD.

I had the Yankees & Indians making the playoffs last year (Indians winning it all).

I thought Laynce Nix was going to be a very good major league player. His dad is a really nice guy.

I thought Kevin Mench was going to have a really good major league career (his so-so obp at age 26 outed him eventually).

Bravo Kenny Lofton makes for an interesting case because I was partially right and partially wrong. Lofton was brought here because Boy Blunder thought a 40 year old CF could play a quality OF, hit lead-off and help the Rangers contend for the division. 40 year old CF’s are nearly non-existent in MLB history for a reason. Lofton tanked the first two months (Rangers were 18-31) but then he played his ass off at a very high level (wanted to be traded?) for 6 weeks and then JD traded him Max. That was the last year Lofton played.

I thought Ramon Nivar had a decent chance in The Show.

I said Ron Mahay had no trade value and he was part of the Tex deal.

I also thought that since the Rangers did not give Washington an extension last summer that there was no way he would be coming back in 2009.

That’s just off the top of my head but glad to know you’ve been following what I write for a long time."

Well, he didn't go first, but that's ok.

I’m in a good mood, and just for tonight, I’ll make an exception.

This is still not an invitation to a conversation.

I could go way over 10. I’ll limit it to 2011-2012 Rangers or Rangers-related opinions, and go off the top of my head. I thought:

Mitch Moreland would fail to impress at first, and Chris Davis would get yet another shot (with the Rangers).

Elvis Andrus would continue to struggle at the plate, and post a wRC+ of ≤ 90.

Colby Lewis would be the Rangers’ best starter in 2011.

Matt Harrison would continue to struggle as a starter, with an FIP ≥ 4.00

Alexi Ogando would be back in the bullpen after 10 starts.

Arthur Rhodes would deliver the same sort of performance Darren Oliver did.

Mark Lowe would have a breakout season in the ’pen, and establish himself as a set-up guy.

Koji Uehara would be brilliant after his trade to the Rangers.

Edinson Volquez would figure it out in Cincinnati.

The 2012 Texas payroll would be $105-115 million dollars.

Buy 10, get one free, though this one’s much more dated: at one point, back over at NMLR, I tried to convince everyone that you were actually capable of sustaining a constructive exchange with someone whose opinions differed from yours, and strongly criticized Jamey and Ed for banning you from the forum.

way more so than Mike Adams. I still think that Koji could have turned it around this season, but if they’re freeing up money for… A MOVE, then I’m OK with it.

I was also such a big Davis bandwagon guy. Every time he came up, I was sure he was going to turn it around. Now that he’s in another team’s colors, I can hate him for having given me such false hope.

As for others, I’ll probably just go by names: Julio Borbon (hmph), Michael Kirkman, Rhodes, Lowe, Koji, Chris Davis, the performance of everyone in the rotation except for Ceej (who I thought would be quality), and probably a few more. But whatevs.

Also, back in January I thought that the Dallas Mavericks had a very good chance of winning the NBA championship whoops.

I did think Naps, Kinsler and Beltre would do well, and frankly, that’s all I really care about.
