Four Rangers crack Jonathan Mayo's top 100 prospect list
Jonathan Mayo has put out a top 100 prospect list for mlb.com, a list that starts off with Matt Moore at #1 and ends with Addison Reed at #100.
Four Rangers made the top 100 list: Jurickson Profar at #7, Martin Perez at #29, Mike Olt at #43, and Leonys Martin at #89.
That order matches how those four players were ranked in the LSB Community Prospect Rankings this offseason, and are the four prospects considered most likely to crack top 100 lists,* along with Neil Ramirez.
* I'm not including Yu Darvish, because I don't really think of him as a "prospect." And apparently, neither does mlb.com.
Olt is a little higher and Martin a little lower than I would have initially expected, particularly given the helium Martin had in the midseason rankings, coming in at #25 in the Baseball America midseason top 50 prospect list.
Also noteworthy is that former Ranger prospect Robbie Erlin, who was #34 on the BA midseason top 50 list, didn't make Mayo's top 100. Erlin, of course, was packaged with Joe Wieland and sent to San Diego last July for Mike Adams.

Odd that both Erlin and Ramirez are being thought of
(seemingly) so much more poorly than LSB rates them.

I don't know about Ramirez
He was #5 on the community projections, and I don’t think he’s generally seen as a top 100 guy, or more than someone who is on the fringe of hte top 100.

Wasn't he in range for a top 50 guy
at the midpoint of last season? Am I just making this up?

He may have been viewed that way by some folks
And I think he may have had an argument, but the arm problems and shakier second half problem knocked him out of that category by season’s end.

what's weird
is that i don’t think anything happened to change erlins value other than being traded to a team with a far lower profile. heck, his one big weakness gets largely mitigated by being there

I wonder if going to SD hasn't hurt his "prospect value"
Since it i seen as easier to pitch in Petco
Im not agreeing with that line of thinking by the way just wondering if that may have something to do with his drop in rankings
So you think
Erlin as a #3 at best is a top 100 prospect?
Yes

I'm impressed
with Profar’s 65/63 BB/K.
I live to play the devil's advocate.

of course
Erlin may give up more home runs than Profar hits over their careers

They were in the same range a year or two ago,
but he hasn’t had the same disappointment at the higher level in surface stats, right?

I love Leyland
And it’s not just the cigarette in the tunnel thing, or the fact that they couldn’t figure out how to pitch to Cruz.
Wow.
