Tomcat (Sacramento): You wouldn't sign Hamilton because?
Jason Parks: He is injury-prone and I think babysitting him would be an experience that causes headaches on a regular basis. Crazy amounts of talent when he is on the field, but lots of strings that come attached to that talent. I'd let him walk before offering up an extension.

He could have just stopped at injury prone. The rest of it just seems like a preemptive strike.

Oooohhhhh JDT.....
jhardman (Apex, NC): Rumors are abounding regarding a trade of Andrew McCutchen to Texas for a prospect laden package. If this happened, would Pirates fans have the right to put Neal Huntington’s head on a stick? And if so, what sort of package would you imagine the Rangers sending to Pittsburgh?

Jason Parks: I’m not supposed to talk about the Rangers because it will cause some to go poo-poo in their di-di.

I have no idea about the package, but it would take a guy like Profar, one would assume. It would also take a bunch of other top tier prospects.

Wow.

Probably no chance.

But if they did …

by CO Ranger on Jan 26, 2012 4:23 PM CST up reply actions

All right, can't help myself

You figure the package would start with Leonys, right? B/c he’d obviously be pretty blocked and doesn’t have the kind of pop you’d want on a corner. And you’d have to figure that Profar would be gone too, unless it’s a pitching heavy package. (hmm?)

Would something like Feliz, Leonys, Ramirez, Olt and Buckel get it done?
Or Harrison, Leonys, Ramirez, Profar be more to their liking?

Ogando makes a lot more sense than Harry in a deal

Doesn’t justify Oswalt, but still.

That’s 11 years of control of #2-#4 starters + a legit ML CF + a legit ML 3b (albeit, a little further off)

That’s a shitload of value.

They'd be pretty foolish not to do that deal, imo

And I think we’d be pretty foolish to do it (value-wise), but the truth is, that’s exactly the type of package that wouldn’t hurt our system too much.

I think that he can be a good starter,

but will need to improve (a third pitch) to provide value at the rate that he provided value as a starter last year.

Not a lot of mileage on the arm. I think he’ll be fine for as long as they control him. Poor guy won’t ever get his big FA payday, though.

by clark on Jan 26, 2012 6:36 PM CST up reply actions

Yes,

but doesn’t have much mileage on the arm. Trying to look at it objectively, he’s a pretty interesting target if you think he could be a good starter and you think the Rangers value you him as a very good reliever or some such.

by GhettoBear04 on Jan 26, 2012 6:36 PM CST up reply actions

depends on how they value Ogando, I guess

this seems like too much to me, but I’m often accused of overvaluing our players.

In my mind, Perez is still a top pitching prospect and Ogando had flashes of dominance last year. Those two alone have tremendous value. Adding two top 100 prospects at premium positions seems like too much (unless they want to throw in Hanrahan).

What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.

by clark on Jan 26, 2012 6:35 PM CST up reply actions

I think the reason why it's easy to

I’ve been thinking about it all offseason. If we add Oswalt, we really can afford to trade a guy like Harrison. Harrison, L Martin and Olt (two top 100 prospects and a controllable, above average starter for those scoring at home) should get it done.

It wont

by bigsteve on Jan 26, 2012 6:17 PM CST up reply actions

but look at how the market is valuing young, controllable starters this offseason

I know McC has a ton of value, a ton, and for good reason. But I think Harrison has quite a bit a well, and Leonys and Olt play the two most premium positions in baseball right now.
