We’ve spent a lot of time and resources developing this younger group where they are ready to maybe take that next step and do we owe it to them?

so JD wants to bid on Darvish and Nolan doesn't
Simpson wants to extend Josh but a deal hasn’t been done yet. JD is leary of Oswalt but Nolan likely wants to sign him. Should I be worried?
Well, Darvish was bid on, won and signed
Oswalt is not not signed yet and neither has Josh been extended. So at this point I would say no, don’t worry, but maybe keep an eye on this.

Whoever said Nolan didn't want Darvish?
Who cares what Simpson wants. We’ve seen how that works out with Jerry Jones making player decisions. And no one really knows exactly what Nolan’s thoughts on how Oswalt would fit into the picture.
It’s amazing to me when Ranger fans actually question the workings of the FO.

He's a free agent still.
I haven’t heard any rumors… he had a set back in the middle of the year and had to be shutdown for good.
I suspect his career is over.

that guy has been paid a ton of money the last 3 years
and he has only pitched 4 innings in that time frame. (opening day of ‘09) What a precipitous fall from 2008, being 2nd in the NL Cy Young vote to Lincecum, to only pitching 4 more innings in his career. He was great for his first 6 years, averaging a fWAR of 5.5. That’s pretty darn good. It’s a shame that injuries cut his career short.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
I wouldn't call what he got a TON of money.
I mean… more than me. But if he had stayed healthy… easy $100+ million contract.

definitely 100+M
I’m not saying he wouldn’t have made more, but he still made nearly $20M over 3 years without pitching a full game. That’s a lot of money for anyone.

Assuming... you actually work for your money.
He got paid multi-mil to throw a few bullpens and maybe some BP. That sounds like a TON of money for worked performed. Give me that fucking gig.

I think you are underestimating how much work it is...
To become a ML pitcher.

He never did regain his ML pitcher job

Oh I see.
You’re saying he got paid for recovering from surgery.
Even still… I don’t begrudge him that at all. It’s the mechanics of the system he worked in.
He worked very hard for a very long time to get good enough that people would pay him to recover and try and return.

I don't begrudge him either.
I understand the wasy these things work. They took a chance and it didn’t work out. I still view it as a lot of money for no results.

Go on...

"Is he ready?"
JD: "he’s gotta to show us something in the spring. we’ve given him A LOT to work on this winter. we’ve had guys constantly going thru Miami. Constantly working with him. challenging him to really improve him english, challenge him to improve him conditioning and then guys like Gary Pettis and Jayce Tingler (mentioned one Casey Kindell (sp?) but I’m not familiar with him) have gone in to work on his jumps in the OF, his bunting, his first step, his reads on the bases, things like that.
Physically – he’s going to come in and look like he belongs. his BP is going to look like it belongs. he’s going to hit in ST. I don’t have any doubt about that. Don’t remind me if he doesn’t. But it all the little nuances of the game and handling the cultural transitions. Those are the things we’ll be looking to see.
Problem solved
Hopefully JD sees that idea.
