Help me build a computer please.
Here are the components I'm looking at buying at this point:

Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
EVGA 012-P3-1570-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM
Please let me know if there are better choices available or if I'm overlooking something. The combined newegg cost of this setup is like $1650. I'd like to get it down under $1500 if at all possible.

ssd
If you’re just booting from the ssd, I think you can go much smaller to boot windows 7….The i7 might be overkill as well, depending on what you’re going to do with that machine.
Noted with the smaller SSD. Went for a 64gb instead.
Will keep the i7 though.
did you look at hybrid drives?

FYI
ppl are generally going to tell you the only reason to have i7 is if you are doing some heavy photoshop/video editing work, not worth it otherwise on a performance to cost standpoint evidently
also not sure about your GFX card, may be some better ones either a) out now or b) on the horizon

GTX570 is about the peak of what I care to spend on a VC.
I’m sure there’ll be better ones coming out but I don’t have the luxury of waiting unfortunately…next to get this built by next weekend.
fair enough

the cost from the i5-2500k (or 2600k)
(k= easier to OC, i think you can do it software wise?)
to i7-2600k is going to be what, 100$?
again, r/buildapc is going to tell you that it isnt going to matter unless you are doing heavy processor intensive stuff
btw, are you opposed to dual video cards liam?

It's an option down the line. Not necessary at the moment.

if taht is the case, not telling you to NOT look at the 570, but make sure its the best one to run in a x2 config

I've got an
i5 processor that rocks on a laptop. If you are going to be gaming, the i7 might be required, but otherwise, save yourself a few bucks.

Try this site.
PCPartPicker lets you choose individual parts, and it finds the cheapest site to buy it from. Newegg is usually the best, but sometimes you can find a part cheaper from Amazon or another site. Here’s a link the build you listed.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
i just did this :(
