Post I made on the old thread before I realized it was dead.

Maybe Pepe? Maybe Coentrao? And either one of them would surprise me. They’re making the best wages they’ll get outside of Manchester…they’ll stay as long as the next manager wants them.

Real will be fine with or without Mourinho. At a club like United, the manager is the most important person. At a club like Real, managers have been, are and always will be interchangeable as far as their directors are concerned.

by LiamP on Jan 30, 2012 12:32 AM CST via mobile reply actions

not sure who, just am fairly sure the next manager isnt going to be quite the same as Mou

RM will be fine w/ or w/o Mou as well. i just think it is funny if they win the league but lose out to Barca the rest of the way and Mou leaves.

Also...

apparently Hazard said on Canal+ that he wants to play in England (link is supposedly here, and I’m pretty sure sprite did claimings about understanding French: http://www.videos-football.com/video-17385-canal-football-club-du-2901-avec-eden-hazard.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter)

So, uh…

Thanks for making me sit through ten minutes of nothing

Says it’s impossible he leaves on Tuesday. Wants to play in England next year and when asked if Arsenal was a possibility says, “Of course, Arsenal is a big club” The host says he bets he goes to Chelsea to which he replied, “Well, that’s your opinion”

Talked about style of play being one of the most important reasons on going to the EPL and going to a team where he’ll get PT.

And apparently Joakim Noah’s dad is a big PSG guy.

by sprite on Jan 30, 2012 9:56 AM CST up reply actions

The dream is completely dead

That said, he would be some kind of perfect for them. If they would actually establish a little depth, Gervinho/Ox-RVP-Hazard, Song-Wilshere-preferably something better than Ramsey/Arteta but whatever, Gibbs-Kos-Vermaelen-Sagna, Szcz would actually be pretty competitive

Youngsters

Besides Ox and Ryo are there any youngsters coming up through the ranks that can be counted on for next year?

In the csb bro section, I just got smoked 6-0 in the CL quarter final against Barca. Even though I will win the FA cup and look good to win the PL, the board is going to bitch and moan.

by jf55510 on Jan 31, 2012 12:29 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah Coquelin looks like

a nice player. The guy I think some Arsenal fans are excited over is Joel Campbell, the Costa Rican they signed last summer. He’s on loan at Lorient and has some decent youtubeage. He’s probably the one with the bost chance of bursting onto the scene.

Frimpong could always get his head on straight, and Benik Afobe and Chuks Aneke have been two of their top reserve squad players for a while now. I suppose that one of them could jump up unexpectedly.

Kyle Bartley is a tall, skinny defender who’s been loaned out to Rangers the past couple of seasons. He has looked iffy when I’ve watched him in preseason, but they like him in Scotland. I think they actually like their reserves keeper Martinez quite a bit, but he certainly won’t see the light of day unless all hell breaks loose.

I think the rest – at least anyone I can think of off the top of my head – are either too young (Jack Jebb, Jon Miquel Toral, Serge Gnabry, etc) or aren’t good enough.

by Brett Perryman on Jan 31, 2012 7:36 PM CST up reply actions

Ignasi Miquel might have something. Maybe.

Lansbury’s not impressed at West Ham so I hear.

by sprite on Jan 31, 2012 7:54 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah that's my impression as well

He’s not earning consistent playing time. Toral does look classy in the couple of games I’ve seen him in. I hear nothing about him since they swiped him, though. Obviously a ways off.

by Brett Perryman on Jan 31, 2012 7:56 PM CST up reply actions

Meanwhile all the Villa board expects of me

is a midtable finish and a cup run.

Does Frimpong still count?

i tell the truth; i lie a lot

by jonthefon on Jan 31, 2012 12:55 AM CST up reply actions

Well

I got smoked 4-1 during the second leg, at least it was the semi’s, not the quarters…

Coquelin and Frimpong are nice.

I guess I need to clarify is there any stud on the horizon that makes one think, fuck, once X gets here this thing will rock…

by jf55510 on Jan 31, 2012 1:53 AM CST up reply actions

Wilshere is the closest thing

and he’s obviously semi-established.

Among those on the horizon, I don’t know of any sure-fire studs. Akpom maybe? I think he leads the England U-17 team as a 16-year-old.

by Brett Perryman on Jan 31, 2012 7:52 PM CST up reply actions

Wilshere

Out for the season. I can’t believe Arsene didn’t get one MF’r who can be counted on for minutes. Ramsey is out of gas and Arteta will be soon. What a waste of a season.

by jf55510 on Jan 31, 2012 9:02 PM CST up reply actions

Yep.

And Arsene admitted that playing him too much last season was the likely cause and we’re headed in that same direction with Ramsey because of shit depth. Le Sigh.

A few months back, someone started a Twitter account as the fake Damien Comolli. He’s been posting today that he’s been negotiating a transfer of Cavani to Liverpool- and now a bunch of idiots are all pissed off at him that it didn’t happen.

Folks, I think the fact the Twitter account says “NOT Damien Comolli” underneath the user name is a big clue that it’s a joke profile…

Ox

Any chance you could find a lineup that has Gervinho, Walcott, RVP and Ox? Can either Gervinho or Walcott play the middle? That is a shitload of pace that could cause problems if you could get all three in there.

What is Conquelin’s true position? He had some nice balls into the box today.

by jf55510 on Feb 4, 2012 2:23 PM CST up reply actions

The only ways would be

either a 4-4-2 with Walcott or Gervinho joining RVP up front or with Ox playing in a CAM kind of role (which he and Arsene have both suggested he could do down the line). In either case the obvious problem to me would be that you’re leaving your central midfield and team defense weakened without dominant players in CM and without a strong defending left back.

Coquelin is a natural holding CM, but the fact that he can play fullback seems pretty huge to me since he may not have more than a utility role at Arsenal in the foreseeable future.

by Brett Perryman on Feb 4, 2012 4:37 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah

That’s what I’m afraid of. I prefer to see Ox than Walcott or Gervinho. Though today Walcott wasn’t full of suck. Any word on how Gervinho is looking over in Africa?

Speaking of FM

FC Krasnodar Season Four update: The Season it all went polyni pizdets (that’s Russian for FUBAR)

So we got to the winter break in 6th place in the league, and won our group in the Europa. Beat Stade Rennais in the first knockout round, and then the losing started- two losses in the league, then a surprising win over Ajax in the first leg of the Europa final 16. Then a 3-0 loss in Holland to knock us out. And since then, we’ve dropped to 10th in the league with 3 matches to go, out of the Russian Cup, and likely no Europe in season 5.

Oh, and several of my players seem to hate me because we’re underachieving, particularly my left back, Vladimir “The Russian Fabio Aurelio” Volkov, and my backup striker, George “Hasn’t Hit the Broadside of a Barn in Months” Tucudean. Yeah, they’re both so transfer listed when the season ends. At least I have a bad-ass Zambian regen goalkeeper to build around next year.

by trza on Feb 8, 2012 4:04 PM CST up reply actions

Not surprising.

Dalgish is idolized to a scary extent, and given how cultish Liverpool supporters are as a whole, it’s not surprising that they’d follow King Kenny down the primrose path. The interview after the Spurs game in which he says that Suarez never should’ve been suspended in the first place is unbelievable. If you truly believe that, why not appeal the decision instead of issuing a statement, as a club, saying you accept the FA’s decision. He and his club are the guy who pleads guilty yet tells everyone in the cell block that he didn’t do anything.

Also, football supporters in England as a whole aren’t particularly smart. Chelsea supporters booed Rio Ferdinand because John Terry called his brother a black cunt. Trying to apply logic to the English matchgoing crowd is pointless.

by LiamP on Feb 8, 2012 7:14 PM CST up reply actions

Yep

Chelsea fans have disappointed, too. Although when one is forced to root for John Terry, it’s not surprising that one ends up condoning some pretty reprehensible behavior.

One big pet peeve of mine is the tendency of some American soccer fans to mimic the worst aspects of the worst English soccer fans. There are a couple of bars in Austin where I hate watching soccer because supporters of some teams act as boorishly and offensively as possible. They clearly do this because think this its how they are “supposed” to act. It’s rather pathetic and the surest sign of a poser if you ask me. Just because some supporters of the team you support act like imbeciles, doesn’t mean you also should act like an imbecile. In England, the imbecilic subset of a team’s fan base is likely really annoying to the majority of that team’s supporters.

would england offer to 'arry over Mou?

Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

I thought this tweet was kind of funny
Harris
Can’t wait to see England under Pearce. We’ll see proper football none of this dribbling malarkey, proper stuck in stuff.

I'm more interested to see how Tottenham goes about replacing Redknapp.

Would like to see Brendan Rodgers go there. The rumours about Daniel Leavy pulling a Gregg Popovich are also interesting. It’ll probably anti-climax with Rafa or even Pardew being hired, or someone like that.

And of course, I hold out hope every time a fairly big job becomes available, that Marcelo Bielsa takes said big job even if he’s already in a quality position.

Biesla

That would be an exciting appointment. He’d seem to suit Tottenham pretty well.

Rodgers just extended with Swansea

Not that that necessarily precludes a move away from Wales, though.

Read earlier this week that Suarez was going to shake

Don’t know what happened. It sucks because I really liked Suarez but this is sorry.

Piennar looks really good back in blue

City, Wigan and Chelsea all in a row and the only one we don’t get 3 points out of is against Wigan. I don’t think anyone could’ve seen that coming!

good day today for arsenal

liverpool didnt gain points and chelsea lost.
now they just need the spurs to win against newcastle to keep them from gaining ground

scoreboard watching hoping for the last CL spot or even europa seems so sad.

I'm rooting for Newcastle

If Newcastle finishes ahead of all of Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, so be it. This lead isn’t so big that Spurs can’t find a way to blow it, although they’d need a little cooperation from the others that they don’t appear likely to get.

Football kits.

The problem is that they change every other year. At this point, if I were to get a kit, I would source a vintage one (’94 Cantona, oh yes).

no kidding

arsenal is changing again next season, liverpools going to a different brand, etc.

i want one of the old dreamcast sponsored shirts.

well

la liga is over

barca had no business losing that game. zero.

did have 2 goals disallowed that were…questionable (and another one that was without a doubt theright call)

but still had a chance to tie it at the end, cesc headed it right @ goalie (who played very VERY well)

barca just looked off all game

still copa del rey, CL to look forward to

(and wonder hwo much it kills RM if barca smokes them in the 2nd league game and wins the other 2?)

So apparently Gervinho went all headcase in the ACN final

and refused to take a penalty in the shootout.

Well

Well, he missed the last PK, I don’t think he refused to take it.

Oh wow

Wow, great. Now Gervinho is going to come back with his head all f’d up.

That's what I'm afraid of...

What I’m really afraid of Arsene is going to do his whole, I’m smarter and know more than you routine (which he is and does) and give us a large does of the Meerkat after his last outing.
