So they are eliminating a team in St Lucie but not the St Lucie Mets

The financially troubled Mets, who recently took out a $40 million bank loan to cover costs, announced shortly before the New Year that they were eliminating their minor league team in Port St. Lucie, Fla., that plays in the Class A Gulf Coast League. The move could save them between $750,000 to $800.000.

Meanwhile, most Mets players drafted out of college go directly to the New York-Penn League or the Florida State League, where the team will retain Single A affiliates with the Brooklyn Cyclones and the St. Lucie Mets.
