I didn't watch the game.
But I’m guessing the Wolves were tired and Amir Johnson abused Darko.

I guess that's what he's primarily playing now..
I wish big guy would have been able to come this year.
Think so.
He’s thrown in a nasty pump fake that destroyed Williams and Love on more than one occasion and he finished at the rim effortlessly. The range is always there. Defense is a problem but his length is okay and Amir is doing most of the dirty work on the 4/5’s.
Watching Ty Lawson limp off the court after tweaking something is not awesome.

I can’t do anything more than I can do, one. Second, my track record pretty much speaks for itself. Until we go all the way down, how can you condemn me? For what? Trying? Condemn me. If trying is a sin, then I have sinned a lot, because I’m never going to stop trying. That’s not my makeup. I don’t read what you write. I really don’t. When I say I don’t, I really don’t. So I don’t know. I get a lot of people saying, “Hang in there.” And I don’t really know what they’re talking about, because I don’t read it. And I really don’t. […]
When we made the trades last year, I didn’t make the trades last year thinking it was going to turn us around right away. No. As a matter of fact, I think I said, “This trade is going to take some time. It’s not going to be one of those things where it’s hit or miss.” I normally do not trade during the course of the season. It’s just something I don’t like to do, because it takes a while to get your chemistry back. I knew the team that was on the floor [before the trades] wasn’t going to get it done. Also, we’d seen enough in Ryan and Brandon [Bass] to know they could hold that position down. That was enough for us. . . .
You can’t take one of these jobs, mine or Stan’s, and have thin skin. You have to have pretty thick skin. It’s not us; it’s the people around us that’s affected the most. We signed up for it. No one put a gun to our head and told us to take it. It’s our families that are affected the most.

http://houston (lol) .culturemap.com/newsdetail/12-25-11-one-year-wonder-no-show-dirk-nowitzki-dallas-mavericks-prove-their-title-was-a-fluke-on-banner-day/
Actually, don’t bother clicking on the link. The best parts:
“If anyone needed confirmation that the Miami Heat lost the NBA Finals last June much more than the Dallas Mavericks won it . . . well, Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Terry and company could not have put out a more convincing Christmas argument.”
“A fluke of a championship is still a championship, frozen in the record books and people’s happy memories forever.
Dallas went on a storybook run in last year’s playoffs. The Mavericks should have been blown off the court in the NBA Finals, and were on their way to being obliterated before LeBron & Wade stepped off the gas too early in Game 2 and were too mentally weak to ever recover from it. Credit Nowitzki for seizing the opportunity. Just don’t expect him to ever come close to doing it again.”
“Forget the fact that the Mavericks no longer have the talent to compete with the Heat, the most alarming thing is that they clearly don’t have anything close to the heart left to do it either.”
"Some might call this a sign of increased maturity for the Heat. But maybe, it’s just a glimpse of the Miami players’ boredom with these Mavericks. They know these chump champs are not going to be in their way this season. Why spend extra energy on them? Save it for the real threats.
The history of professional sports is littered with one-year wonder teams. Dirk, Terry and Cuban are merrily stepping right into the line."
i tell the truth; i lie a lot
For those that care, Vince Carter contract specifics:
Courtesy of DLord:
Carter – the final two years are partially-guaranteed for $2M each season but become fully guaranteed if he is not waived on or before 6/30/12; if waived, under the new CBA’s “stretch” provisions for waivers, the cap hit then would be $800,000 per season for 5 seasons
This is kind of genius actually.
I was surprised that they got Carter for only 3Mil for one year. In fact, they guaranteed him 7Mil for what will probably only be one season, but his cap hit will only be a little more than that of a minimum salary guy if they cut him next season.

Best ball movement I've seen since Game 6 in Miami.
Seems like they’re finally starting to get a feel for one another. Vince has made some great passes so far this year.

Just lack of conditioning, continuity
I mean, you’ve had Dirk miss everything the last two games… And while it’s Detroit it’s not a coincidence they’re clicking after finally having a couple of days of practice.

7-9, 15 points tonight. 5-7, 12 points against San Antonio. Garbage time or not, Carlisle has to realize soon that they are going to help Dallas more than Cardinal. Carter should be the full-time backup SF, and those two should be the 9th and 10th guys off the bench.
right now I like dojo more than Roddy
Beaubois looks like he’s been castrated offensively. He’s lost the killer instinct that made him special as a rookie. I don’t know if it’s all the talk about him having to hone his point guard skills or what, but he hasn’t really done that(the pure point rating is down), and meanwhile the scoring effectiveness has eroded almost completely.
Roddy is much more of a defensive asset than an offensive one right now, which isn’t something I thought I’d ever say.
by Alan Smithee on Jan 10, 2012 9:45 PM CST up reply actions
Wright and Yi should be getting all of Cardinal's minutes.

yet he's still getting to the basket at will

Not suggesting he get 20 minutes a night or anything. But with all the shooters Dallas has at guard a slasher like Jones could be a nice change of pace.

by Alan Smithee on Jan 10, 2012 9:48 PM CST up reply actions
Not really
I mean, I don’t mind him getting more minutes. I just haven’t seen anything in his play to warrant that. He’s always been able to slash and draw fouls.
did you see something in his play that warranted his minutes being halved?
Because coming into tonight that was what was happening this year relative to his rookie season.

Dojo
looks quite a bit leaner to me, and a little quicker than I remember.
i think he can be the 10th man right now
and if he gets enough court time perhaps develop into something more by season’s end. Pretty similar to Barea’s second NBA season.
by Alan Smithee on Jan 10, 2012 10:55 PM CST up reply actions
He can't shoot. At all.
He’ll have to be so much better at everything else to make up for his shot that I have very little hope of him ever being a rotation player.
obviously his jumpshot is what's holding him back right now
but you’re writing him off forever?
He did make 10-26 (38.5%) 3’s in the D league last year, and his free throw shooting has been strong as a pro, 61-71 (85.9%) in the D league and 18-21 (85.7%) in the NBA. I think there’s hope for improvement, at least to the point where he develops a semi-passable midrange game. There are guys who succeed with something around that kind of profile. He could be Stuckey-lite. For what it’s worth, Jones shot the college 3 better than Stuckey did.
by Alan Smithee on Jan 11, 2012 12:48 PM CST up reply actions
Forever, maybe not.
But I haven’t seen enough from him to think he deserves time ahead of Roddy, or that he’s good enough to play in the rotation at all right now.
If anything, West is playing so well that it’s going to be hard for Carlisle to justify giving Roddy regular minutes, much less Jones.
Surely someone will give them something for Beasley.

I just don’t. He’s completely beyond me. He goes from being the greatest basketball player ever on one night (or during one particular fourth quarter stretch) to Mo Ager the next.

Hard to say.
I think there are situations where a player gets more out of being with the team and practicing that from playing in the DLeague.
And the schedule is so compressed that the Mavs will probably want the depth. But I do definitely see him picking up a lot of DNP’s once Kidd is back if Roddy doesn’t implode.
x
University of Kentucky freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is “now being mentioned” as a possible No. 1 overall NBA pick, according to Scott Howard-Cooper of NBA.com.
Well, shit.
Chad Ford had something on scouts being down on Barnes earlier today. Love me some Kidd-Gilchrist.
x
General managers came into the season with very high expectations for Barnes after his stellar play at the end of the season, combined with some rave reviews from the summer camps. He’s been a scoring machine and has dramatically improved the accuracy of his 3-point shot (he’s shooting over 50 percent from 3 this season) while cutting down on bad shots. But his lack of rebounds and assists has been troubling. Is Barnes one-dimensional or is he on a loaded team doing exactly what Roy Williams is asking him to?
gilchrist is really good
but he wouldn’t be the #1 pick if the draft was limited to Kentucky players only

"I became an optimist when I discovered that I wasn't going to win any more games by being anything else." by Earl Weaver
It wasn't not BG.
I’ve decided I’m willing to give up about 10% of production averaged across all 10 categories to get depth. I think that’s the premium that’s worth paying.
First deal is about a 28% reduction in my production for the players involved. What I countered with was a 9.4% reduction.
Here was my counter that I wanted:
PTS/G 3/G REB/G OR/G STL/G BLK/G FG% FT% FT/G A/TO 57.1 1.7 22.2 6.3 4.5 2.3 0.487 0.603 9.8 1.51

How so?
Each category is equally weighted in value from a scoring perspective. I haven’t done an analysis to determine which categories are better than others as far as what’s easier to acquire…
But the first deal was a pretty massive reduction in several categories.

GQ: Quick hypothetical, toes aside: Let’s say the game was tied. 10 seconds left. You had 30 points, LeBron’s got 30, and Wade’s got 30. You got the same amount of rebounds, same amount of assists—having the same great game. Who takes the shot at the end to either win or lose the game.
Chris Bosh: [immediately] Dwyane.
GQ: Why?
Chris Bosh: Because of his success in the past, given what he’s done. He’s a champ. He’s an MVP, and he’s hit a bunch of last-second shots. That’s the time you have to put pride aside a little bit, and do what’s best for the team. He’s quickest, and he’s gonna get a shot off. He relishes those moments.

Lots of folks around the league are starting to believe that it’s possible if not probable. Even before the Showcase started Monday, two rival executives told ESPN.com that they think Marion will still have trade value at season’s end after the defense and energy he supplied during Dallas’ championship run and the solid manner in which he’s started this season.

Player B is Westbrook.
Westbrook is obviously better and will improve… but you guys are underestimating the value of Danilo.

I expect they both will some.
They’ve both been super hot.
And Westbrook will likely regress up to his normal numbers… his start has been meh like Martin.
But it’s still three above average players for Westbrook and Allen… and Allen isn’t much above waiver wire production.
"I became an optimist when I discovered that I wasn't going to win any more games by being anything else." by Earl Weaver
I like Allen and think he's not particularly close to waiver wire production, though it might be
because I owned him during his hot streak to end last season and won a title because of it.
