But first, here is some late, breaking news....
No school in the country likes to trademark things as much as Texas A&M. Just ask any other team in the country that has tried to use "the 12th man" to describe its fans.
And now Texas A&M is going to help the family of its quarterback, Johnny Manziel, trademark his nickname of "Johnny Football."
"Texas A&M is working in concert with the Manziel family to trademark the nickname," Shane Hinkley, who runs Texas A&M's licensing program and is the school's assistant vice president of business development, told ESPN.
The problem for the Manziel family is that this comes a few weeks after another company in College Station, Kenneth R. Reynolds Family Investments, filed for the same "Johnny Football" trademark. Whether that company did so with Manziel in mind or there is just an abundance of Johnny Footballs in College Station isn't clear. All that's known is the company isn't working with the school or the Manziel family.
If the Manziel family does win the trademark, neither it nor the school can use it to sell products that are clearly linked to Manziel; that would affect his eligibility at the school.
Of course, it could be years before the family actually owns the trademark, if they win it.
Yeah, whatever.
1. An SEC school that was a BXII school beat an SEC school, so the BXII must be better than the SEC this year, right?! Wrong. Thank you, Aggies. You've made this season more memorable than ever. I love you.
2. Johnny HeisManziel, #JFF4H, Manziel4Heisman, or any other cute slogan you want to throw out there - he's invited to NYC, this is for sure. But what if.....
3. We have a new #1 - congrats to Snyder's family for teaching TCU what BXII North Football is all about. I can't believe I'm saying this, but in two weeks, I'll be rooting for those goddamn Longhorns.(Why? I want ND in the national championship game.)
4. BCS Chaos, but not where you think - with Louisville, Bama, and Oregon State losing this weekend, the little sisters in the BCS have some things to sort out. Obviously a combination of ND, Oregon, or K-State will probably end up in Miami, but after that, there's some shuffling to be done. How many SEC teams get in? Where does OU go? Does La. Tech still have an outside shot of getting in? Answers will be given in two weeks time.
Games of note this week - U$C @ UCLA, Ole Miss @ LSU, Texas Tech @ Oklahoma Lite, Stanford @ Oregon. Kind of a meh week. Glad I'm coming home this weekend so I can occupy myself with friends, family, and fun.
