Three years ago today, Richard Durrett reported that Tom Hicks was making a last-ditch effort to try to retain ownership of the Texas Rangers by putting together an investor group that would include Nolan Ryan and Roger Staubach.

There was much consternation, confusion, anger, and befuddlement from us long-suffering Rangers fans who just wanted Tom Hicks to go away.

And eventually he did.

But not without trying to bring his ownership of the team back from the dead.
