According to Jeff Wilson on Twitter, the Rangers have acquired LHP Tommy "Hottie Tottie" Hottovy from the Kansas City Royals for a player to be named later and cash considerations.
This puts the Rangers' 40 man roster at 35 prior to Rule 5 eligible players being added, and it is unlikely the Rangers will add more than a couple of their own prospects to the 40 man roster, so they have some spots on the 40 man roster to play with.
Hottovy is a 31, and was a fourth round draft pick of the Boston Red Sox in the 2004 draft. He has pitched in the majors with Boston in 2011 and with Kansas City in 2012, albeit for just 13.1 innings.
Hottovy, a sidearmer, struck out 11 per 9 IP while walking just 2.9 per 9 IP in AAA last season, posting a 2.52 ERA in the PCL for Omaha, and the Rangers, I'd assume, are looking at him as a potential lefty option in the bullpen for 2013, although its also just as likely he gets dropped from the 40 man roster by spring training.
