Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez - Rick Osentoski-US PRESSWIRE
Would you rather have Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton for the next five years, or Salvador Perez and Eric Hosmer?
Joe Posnanski has a blog post up about the dynamic Angels duo of Josh Hamilton and Albert Pujols, asking whether -- even setting contracts aside -- a team would rather have the two of them for the next five years, or the Royals' young combo of Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez.
Posnanski believes that Hosmer and Perez will post a higher WAR over the next five years than Pujols and Hamilton, and goes through, in typical Poz fashion, to give extensive details on the reasons for that, but his theory comes down to this: great players in their early 30s usually don't continue to be great, and players who are in the majors when they are 22 or younger usually become very good.
Agree or disagree with his premise, the piece is worth checking out to see some of the historical examples Poz uses in showing why he thinks what he thinks. Check it out...
