Kendrys Morales, Seattle Mariner - Jayne Kamin-Oncea-US PRESSWIRE
The Angels have reportedly traded Kendrys Morales for Jason Vargas
According to Alden Gonzalez, the Angels' beat writer for MLB.com, Anaheim has traded 1B/DH Kendrys Morales to the Seattle Mariners for starting pitcher Jason Vargas.
Morales missed much of 2010 and all of 2011 after breaking his leg in a home plate celebration, and his 2012 performance was seen as mildly disappointing. Morales is in his last year of arbitration eligibility, and will be a free agent after the 2012 season.
Vargas has a 4.09 ERA and a 95 ERA+ in four seasons with the Mariners, the last three exclusively as a starter. He's a low strikeout, low walk, homer-prone pitcher. The Angels were reportedly looking for an "innings-eater" type in a trade involving one of their surplus OF/1B types, and Vargas fits the bill, having thrown at least 192 innings in each of the past three seasons.
Like Morales, Vargas is a free agent after the 2012 season.
