Jurickson - Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE

Jurickson Profar is returning to Texas to get his sore elbow examined by team doctors

Jurickson Profar's disappointing winter ball campaign with Licey has come to an end, as he is returning to Texas to have a sore elbow examined.

Profar hit .158 for Licey in 38 ABs, and was largely riding the pine over the last couple of weeks.

His elbow issue isn't thought to be serious, but the Rangers are wanting to be cautious with him, for obvious reasons.

Profar is a candidate to start the season in the majors, but whether or not he makes the team will largely be dependent on the other moves the Rangers make during the offseason. If Texas deals Ian Kinsler or Elvis Andrus, or if the Rangers don't make a move for another hitter, Profar would be expected to start 2013 with the team. Otherwise, he most likely will begin the year with AAA Round Rock.

Profar spent most of last season in AA, and will be 20 at the start of the 2013 season, so there should not be a significant rush to force him into the lineup immediately.
