Beliveau, who turns 26 next month, is a former 18th round draft choice of the Chicago Cubs. Beliveau's only major league experience came in 2012, when he threw 17.2 innings in relief over 22 games, striking out 17, walking 12, and allowing 5 home runs. Remarkably, he still only had a 4.58 ERA.

Beliveau has 2 options remaining, and had a very solid season in the minors in 2011, putting up a 1.57 ERA in 74.1 innings split between the high-A Florida State League and the AA Southern League.

While in the minors in 2012, Beliveau pitched for the Cubs' AAA affiliate in Iowa, and put up a 3.89 ERA in 44 innings.

The Rangers' 40 man roster is now full. A.J. Pierzynski will be added once he passes his physical and his signing becomes official, so someone will have to be dropped to make room for Pierzynski. Eli Whiteside would seem to be the most likely candidate.
