Six years ago today, I had a long post about the John Danks and Nick Masset for Brandon McCarthy trade, which had been announced the day before.
Its weird how that has worked out. Danks had three great seasons for the ChiSox, regressed, and is now coming off of shoulder surgery. Masset was a useful reliever for the Reds for several years (after being sent to Cincy for Ken Griffey, Jr.), but missed all of 2012 with a shoulder injury. And McCarthy, of course, had a disappointing run in Texas where he was plagued by injuries, re-invented himself in Oakland, and has now signed a 2 year, $15.5 million deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The deal was a disaster for the Rangers, although both they and McCarthy have gone on to have success afterwards. It was a big win for Chicago, although they are also now looking at owing $57 million to Danks over the next four years, while hoping he comes back strong from his shoulder surgery.
It was the trade that was supposed to get Jon Daniels fired, and yet, he's still standing.
That trade seems a lot longer than six years ago.
