So, after hearing all day about how the Rangers are making progress on a Josh Hamilton deal, how they've supposedly offered him a 4 year guaranteed deal at over $100 million, Jon Daniels has (according to a bunch of tweets that just came out) now said that is "overblown" and that he hasn't communicated with Hamilton's camp this week.
Of course, you can read that as not denying that Thad Levine (who deals with a lot of the Rangers' contract stuff) or Nolan Ryan or someone else has communicated with Hamilton's camp. I don't know if anyone pressed JD about whether "he" hadn't communicated with Hamilton's people, or whether no one with the Rangers had. I suspect its the former.
In any case...the Rangers could be making headway with Hamilton. Or they could not be. And in the meantime, the Rangers are also supposedly sniffing around on Rays' righthander James Shields, and may be part of discussions involving a three- or four-way deal. I was looking for a minor leaguer named "Gay" who plays for one of the teams involved, so I could do a joke about how he isn't involved in the trade, since its not Gay if its a three-way, but there's no minor leaguer with that name.
Too bad.
