Baseball America has come out with their top 10 prospect list for the Texas Rangers, and after the top few obvious choices, it gets a little idiosyncratic.
The list, in order:
1. Jurickson Profar
2. Mike Olt
3. Martin Perez
4. Leonys Martin
5. Justin Grimm
6. Luke Jackson
7. Luis Sardinas
8. Cody Buckel
9. Jorge Alfaro
10. Joey Gallo
I'm a big Luke Jackson fan, but #6, in this system, seems really aggressive to me. And Sardinas ahead of Alfaro, the 2012 draftees, and the big recent international signings seems bizarre. The way I generally judge whether Player A should be ranked ahead of Player B is by asking myself, if the Rangers had to choose to give up one of this two players, who would I rather part with (ignoring system depth, major league needs, etc.)? If I had a choice between giving up Sardinas or Ronald Guzman, or Sardinas or Nomar Mazara, or Sardinas or Alfaro, that's a pretty easy choice for me.
Anyway, there's also a Best Tools list and other stuff at the link, so go check it out...
