"What we're trying to do is take this to a new, sustainable level, where it really is a dynasty franchise like the Cowboys achieved," Rangers co-chairman Bob Simpson said. "The one thing we know for sure is money can't buy it. Silly guys get in with big egos and a lot of money and just make a mess. I don't believe that is going on here.

Wait, what?
It’s possible that Olt could also wind up in right field with third base blocked by Beltre.

Sounds pretty speculative to me.
I don’t know why anyone in the org would say such a thing.

It seems awfully doubtful
that his bat will play well enough to be an asset out there. As if the Olt-to-1B speculation isn’t odd enough, moving him to the OF just seems crazy to me. He’s a 3B.

???
Moving to OF would require less of a bat than 1B?

Have I just not been paying attention or has Bob been more vocal lately than ever?
I don’t remember seeing any quotes or interviews from him until a week or so ago.

That's exactly how I read it, too.....
And that’s not the first time we’ve heard something like this from Simpson…..I really like him….he’s not scared of JJ or the Cowboys….

I feel like he is just as much taking a shot at his former auction competitor
except Cuban came in with his huge ego and had tons of success.
By the way,
I enjoyed your comments at LL today. You just happen to be over there?

Which thread?

I went over there from the recruiting thread
and I couldn’t give you a really good reason why I was in the recruiting thread. Seemed kind of interesting but I don’t have a college sports team so ultimately I can never get too excited.
I couldn't decide which was more (un)likely
that you were perusing the college football thread or that you were reading the comments section of a random LL post.

Well I guess it was a test to see if I could get excited about someone's recruiting class
I couldn’t.
Yeah,
it’s a bit easier with soccer players, but even then…

I never followed all the #6 org stuff
but man, that affair seems to send LL folks into the red. I was unaware that LSB seems to draw their ire as well. I would love to see the chaos created if they “guest moderated” LSB for a day…
Jeff comes by and fits in fine, but has said he would hate to moderate this place.

Why does everyone assume it's always shots against the Cowboys?
by TooLegitToQuit on Feb 1, 2012 8:37 PM CST up reply actions
I think mainly because they are a local team and it describes
Jerry Jones perfectly…he may very well be talking about Cuban, the Yankees under George or some other team but every time I read someone talking about an egotistical owner who gets in the way, I think of JJ

The thing is that Cuban and George both had success.
Jerry did too but in the last 16 years they have one playoff win so he’s the likely suspect. I suppose he could mean Al Davis but he’s dead and all so I doubt he’d take a shot at him.
by elchicodelgado on Feb 1, 2012 9:27 PM CST up reply actions
Can't be talking about Cuban.
The Mavs have won 50 games or more every year for the last 10 years, have made the playoffs ever year in that span, have been to the finals twice in that span, and won it all last year.

Because they are shots at the Cowboys?
Or more specifically, Jerry Jones, and the jacked-up way he runs the team?

I figured it was a Tom Hicks shot, also...
by ghostofErikThompson on Feb 1, 2012 10:21 PM CST up reply actions
Tom Hicks, the Mets, the McCourts
I think ti is a baseball stab; mostly because tons of money doesn’t really mean the same thing in football, and no one cares about basketball.

I don't think describing the Cowboys as a mess would be accurate.
They’re basically mediocre.

Why would local owners make enemies with each other?
by TooLegitToQuit on Feb 2, 2012 12:53 AM CST up reply actions
Or more specifically..
Why is Bob Simpson trying to make himself an enemy in DFW? Because the last thing he should be doing is getting on the wrong side of the local owner who lives right down the street..you never know when they’re going to need to scratch eachother’s back.

I just love what this team is doing...
I don’t think there is another team I’d rather be a fan of (this isn’t a silly proposition – of course I’d have rather been a fan of just about anyone else in 2005…) than this one. Boston and NY may have brighter futures because of their money, but that isn’t as satisfying. And Tampa is going to suffer for its payroll despite its management.

When I talk to serious Rays fans, it's almost kind of sad.
Because they know it. It’s like their cancer patients who have managed to have a really great life otherwise.

that's a depressing analogy
just tell them that they’re a lot more worthy of our respect than the A’s who don’t have fans or a good stadium situation yet just shoot to be .500 every year and whine that thye can’t do better.
