Rosenthal on the Roy Oswalt stalemate
Per Rosenthal, Oswalt only wants to pitch for Texas or St. Louis, and wants a $10 million deal for one year. Good luck with that.

First...
Time in team history we’ve had such a logjam on the mound. Great feeling to have.
I will awaken my expectations for the Cowboys when Jerry Jones is in the ground.

I stole someone else's idea from a thread a while back
not sure if someone already made this or not

i dont think so
you stole it from the CJ holding all the BB’s right?
NO This is why i dont come here so much anymore. it has become a destination for certain types which i am not. Love the rangers, not this -- Mark from OC on Arrested Development

matchstick referenced it in his post yesterday I think
I’m not sure this actual pic existed before though.
Good work, Cowboy

If we are looking at an Oswalt starter pitcher

If we are looking at Oswalt, why not Jackson if the price is relatively the same and the time commitment the same? Jackson may only want one year so he can test next year, and the rangers now have the infield defense.

The Rangers really don't need Jackson either....they would have the same issue with Harrison
if they signed Jackson and I would rather have Harry at his price than Jackson. It is interesting how the market has dropped for him as well…..looks like Boston offered him $5-$6 million….
Boston’s offer to Jackson was for one year and between $5 million and $6 million, according to The Boston Globe. Jackson has said from the get-go that he was seeking a multiyear deal.http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/_/id/7528554/source-boston-red-sox-likely-pitcher-edwin-jackson

If they intend to sign a cheap free agent, would you rather have Jackson or Oswalt on a 1 year deal?
If the front office insists on a pitcher (setting aside the consensus that neither fits the team), Jackson looks like the better pitcher going forward.

Neither.

I don't think the front office is insisting on adding a pitcher
I think the situation with Oswalt is unique, given his particular desire to pitch in Texas and his history with Ryan and Maddux. If Oswalt hadn’t come up in Round Rock when those two were there, this probably is a non-issue.

Just read your response but I agree with the others.....
Neither….they just don’t need another SP. The rotation is pretty much set….use the Oswalt money toward a need…LH relief pitcher, 1B….

Its flattering that a pitcher of his pedigree wants to play for us..
But sigh no role for you, but ’Im sure we can work something out if you want in the pen…
He'll end up with the Sox for the $10 mill plus incentives.
It’s all about the money, after all.
I shortened my sig so I wouldn't be frowned upon at Lookout Landing
would the dodgers take
profar harrison and holland for kershaw? then we sign oswalt
No....
You would need to basically empty the farm for Kershaw….and throw in Holland…..

Add Olt and Perez to that mix and we get Ethier coming back as well.
That deal could theoretically happen.

If they trade Kershaw
they’re going to want Profar

No duh.
Profar, Harrison, Holland, Olt, and Perez for Kershaw and Ethier.

I think I'd have to do that
Not every squatch is a rocket scientist
I have no idea how to evaluate that.
They’d be getting 3 pitchers who could contribute in the near-term and two position players that won’t contribute for 2-3 years. I’m not sure that the Dodgers, assuming new ownership, are willing to wait that long for a rebuild.

Oswalt is a pretty good pitcher..
…but he has to realize he has no place in the Rangers rotation. If he were willing to come for about 6 – 8 million, as a long relief guy with the hope of going to the rotation if one of the guys gets injured or underproduces, it would be a no-brainer, in my opinion.
But as a starter? and for 10million? That doesn’t make any sense for the Rangers.
You don't really pay long relief guys 6-8 million.
I mean, not on purpose.
We’re paying Feldman 6.5 this year, but he was supposed to be a starter when we gave it to him.

Jackson must have some clubhouse issues or something
A guy with his stuff gets moved around so much at his age and then can’t find anybody to sign him to anything over a 1 year deal?
Baseball's hard, guys. I mean, it really is. You can love it but, believe me, it don't always love you back. It's kind of like dating a German chick, you know?
He's fairly inconsistent.
He can be frustrating to watch.
