KG
VERY high on gary brown (18)
Scout: He was a first-round pick right? Got a huge bonus?
KG: Oh yeah.
Scout: Well, he spent a lot of it on milkshakes.

Look 4 spots after that for the real surprise of this list
by LiamP on Feb 13, 2012 10:30 AM CST via mobile up reply actions
You think Peralta should be higher?
Goldstein’s a very ceiling-oriented guy and a self-admitted velo & athlete whore. These rankings aren’t that surprising.

Yelich should be
33 IS BS

Not surprised by it
but I do think he should be higher. Same with Archie and Starling. And flip flop Hultzen and Harvey.
Think Archie's about right
Surprised he didn’t have Starling higher too.
Still 9/46…so many pears.

It's ok. We can't all be powerhouses.

LOL I'M NOT THAT MAD IT ONLY TOOK 64 PICKS TO GET MY NINE PROSPECTS
BUT ANYWAY UNIMPRESSED BY HEREDIA AND JACOBS RATING ALTHOUGH IF WE WERE THROWING AWAY CONTROVERSIAL RANKINGS MAYBE NOBODY WOULD LIKE SPANGENBERG’S RANKING EITHER
i tell the truth; i lie a lot
Where is Leonys?!
Other than that it’s good.
Profar and Olt are higher than usual.

That's as high as you can justifiably put Profar

And another Profar over Machado
Seems pretty well split.

Aren't there questions regarding Machado's ability to stick at SS?

Both have already been successful and expressed their tools to some capacity.
Don’t really think I would consider them sleeper prospects.
They are sleeper prospects
if you aren’t constantly listening to Rangers prospectophiles
by ab03 on Feb 13, 2012 10:42 AM CST via mobile up reply actions
Sleepers in that most people have no idea who they are
and they can claw/climb their way deep into the top 100 if they take another 2011-esque leap forward in terms of development.
Prospect definition
Is Trout still a prospect because he’s 19 or because he still qualifies for ROY balloting?
"A lot of people may not know this, but I happen to be quite famous." - Sam "MayDay" Malone
That's why Moore is still and prospect
And why some people say that Yu is

I'd say Yu is a prospect.
Not gonna get my panties in a wad over it though

why do they say he's not?

Because the NPB
isn’t the same as minor league baseball and to a certain extent, he has already proven what he can do.
Because he has six years professional experience at the highest level in Japan.

but Cubans are considered prospects?
I know there’s a big difference, but it just seems odd to me that only Japan’s pro leagues count towards prospect status. Not that any other country has a pro league as established.
What of players that go to Europe to play pro?

I think it is just that the NPB is a more advanced league
But I also don’t remember El Duque being considered a prospect so I think age plays some factor, though at 24-26, it gets a little difficult.
I have a friend
who plays softball in the CAPSBL. Guess what the P stands for.
One of the reasons I've seen prospect guys cite
Is that the Rangers didn’t do anything to develop him. He’s not a product of the system.
"I became an optimist when I discovered that I wasn't going to win any more games by being anything else." by Earl Weaver
that makes sense
but still – the one thing everybody points to is how hard of a “jump” it is; which sounds prospect-y to me
1. Learn how to grib a bigger baseball
2. Learn to adjust to major league hitters
etc. etc. etc.

Good point.
I remember hearing Law and KG say that though.
"I became an optimist when I discovered that I wasn't going to win any more games by being anything else." by Earl Weaver
regardless of what Law, KG, ESPN, etc. say
Yu is most certainly a prospect for the Rangers; just one we’ve spent a ton of $ on and that will be given a much more lenient chance to succeed or fail. He’s not proven by any means when it comes to MLB, and that’s really all that matters.

Do you think the Roy Oswalt, having not pitched in the AL,
is an complete unknown with regards to how he would pitch as a Ranger next year?

You're not exactly comparing apples to apples here
coincidentally though, I think Oswalt is a complete unknown with regards to how he would pitch as a Ranger next year.
Josey Wales: "And if you think intangibles really do exist, how in the F could you vote Ellsbury as the MVP?"
Adam J. Morris: "If it weren’t for my horse, I wouldn’t have spent that year in college."
But Oswalt HAS pitched against the AL in AL parks
I’m pretty sure…

I don't think that makes sense. They could've traded for Trout and started him in CF.
Trout would still be a prospect, even though he spent zero time in the Rangers system.
Everybody needs somebody to love... I need Yu, Yu, Yu! I need Yu, Yu, Yu!
I hope I haven't offended the Blues Brothers with this.
But they still had to scout and value him?
I understand and agree why Darvish isn’t a prospect, though it’s less clear to me why guys like Cespedes and Concepcion aren’t.

So is it way to early to be seriously excited about Alfaro?
(we were so damn spoiled with Pudge)

I think Cistuli over at FG did a piece looking for breakouts and he was one of the potential guys.
