Not a bad rotation they have
Strasburg, Gonzalez, Zimmermann, Jackson. Could see them competing for the wildcard.
i think they're a little ways away from competing in that division..
however, i also never thought the diamondbacks would make the playoffs last season.
Whatevs they got that huge bat in the outfield this year
I’m talking about Jayson Werth, of course.

There's no way he posts a .323 wOBA again

no but it's always fun to mock past failures
Even though I think Werth is a stand up guy

Edwin Jackson
has now played for 36 of the 30 teams in Major League Baseball.
If I had a gun to my head and had to pick one pitcher to pitch a game to save my life.... I'd pick 1999 Rick Helling.

Ricky Henderson is chuckling at everyone forgetting about him
Indy leagues count, right?
Josey Wales: "And if you think intangibles really do exist, how in the F could you vote Ellsbury as the MVP?"
Adam J. Morris: "If it weren’t for my horse, I wouldn’t have spent that year in college."
Rickey's probably chuckling anyway
Bscause of a great joke Rickey Henderson heard from Rickey Henderson.

Underrated.
"I have thought a lot about why people get so hostile online, and I have come to believe it is primarily because we live in a society with a hypertrophied sense of justice and an atrophied sense of humility and charity, to put the matter in terms of the classic virtues." --Alan Jacobs

And in all seriousness while
Lofton, Henderson, Morgan, Stairs, and Sanders have all played for more teams, but look at this nugget…
2012 will be Jackson’s 10 MLB and age 28 season. Washington is his 7th team, including 7 in his last 8 years, 6 in his last 5. The last time he spent an entire year with one team – 2009 with Detroit, who promptly traded him to AZ in the Granderson deal. Oh and don’t forget 7/27/11, where he was with 3 teams in 1 day. CHW flipped him to Toronto and Toronto then traded him to StL. So technically Washington is his 8th team.
By Age 28 Lofton had been with 2 teams, by his 10th season 3 teams
Henderson 2 teams by 28 and 10th season
Mike Morgan 5 teams by 28 and 6 by his 10th season
Stairs 3 by 28 and 5 by his 10th season
Sanders 1 by 28 and 3 by his 10th season
If I had a gun to my head and had to pick one pitcher to pitch a game to save my life.... I'd pick 1999 Rick Helling.

And if Washington isn't sniffing the playoffs come 7/31 or 8/31
He’s a good bet to be traded again.

So he has to be worth, what, 1.7ish WAR?
Yeah I’ll take the way over. Good contract

I don't think there's a consensus.
Szymborski has been using $4.7M this offseason.

I thought it was 5.5 ish
been wrong before
5 makes it 2 WAR, still take the over
ZIPs’ 4.7 has it at 2.1, still take the over

5.5
I think is what was used in an earlier article looking at Yu’s worth and it was accounting for inflation over the course of his contract.
I think I did get it from a Yu article, yeah

It honestly doesn't matter
we know WAR is not linear and this is exactly the range where that equivalency breaks down
I've been using 4.75
as there seems to be no consensus between 4.5 and 5.

Indians To Sign Casey Kotchman
by Ben Nicholson-Smith
The Indians have agreed to sign Casey Kotchman, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweets.

if Moreland is healthy
he will put up better production than Kotchman
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.

Eh, Kotchman can be pretty awful.
Hes had a negative WAR 3 times and his BABIP was 55 points above his career line last year.
He may very well be better than Mitch, but its hardly automatic.
not jumping on your specifically
but how can folks have such solid confidence in this FO’s scouting/assesment of Darvish, but believe that they have no idea what they are doing with Moreland?
If they think the power shortage was due to his wrist, isn’t it pretty likely that that’s the cases?
