Six Rangers Prospects in the Baseball America Top 100
Baseball America released it's preseason top 100 prospect list this morning and six Rangers prospects made the cut:
4. Yu Darvish
7. Jurickson Profar
31. Martin Perez
43. Mike Olt
79. Leonys Martin
100. Christian Villanueva
The notable entry is Christian Villanueva and the highest I've seen him on any national prospect list.
Also of note is the inclusion of Yoenis Cespedes at 14.

How nice for Villanueva
thought I can’t really see him being higher than Ramirez, personally.

Not really.
Goldstein has him at 77 and Keith Law at 99.

I disagree.
People in here acted like he was an obvious Top 100 guy a few months ago. Now he’s fringy.
Who cares what fans of a team think?
Ramirez is arguably a top 100 prospect. Not everyone agrees… plenty of lists have him as such.
Fans do what fans do… fans do not create helium.

Another argument with match about prospects and their rankings.
I’m noticing a trend. You are very defensive about Rangers prospects.
I hardly think you could say I'm being defensive.
And anywho, matchst1ck is the one who’s come after me. Not the other way around.
And this, btw, is my point
These are hardly arguments indicative of being defensive. He’s disagreeing with you – it happens. You seem to be overly sensitive to disagreement.
This is third time I've had this go around with matchst1ck on this subject.
I’m tired of it. He gets defensive whenever I talk about our board overvaluing certain players, Martin and Ramirez to be specific.
I don’t see why you and snark are treating me in the wrong here. It is odd.
I don't know that you're in the wrong about your opinion
but it seems odd that you want to start something over it. I don’t think anybody else wants to. Spread your opinion far and wide. I don’t see the big deal.
Again
nobody is attacking you. I’m not attacking anybody.
In fact, I think you’re just doing a bit now so kudos if that is the case. Quite funny.
Definitely not a bit.
And you did choose to come after me. As did Snark and matchst1ck. It’s a little bit of mob mentality.
This reminds me of that
scene in goodfellas with the coke and phantom copters and shit…
It's not a matter of "right" or "wrong."
It’s that you seem upset over matchst1ck doing what he does, which only seems to upset you more… I’m suggesting you just let it run off your back. Basically, what ab03 says above.

The problem is that matchst1ck is being like Josey on this subject.
Every time I bring something like this up he comes after me. And it is for the personal reasons that he listed below.
I don’t like it when people look down their noses at people for being fans. Being a fan is fun… rooting for the Rangers is fun.
And you guys are choosing to come after me about it. I let them run off my back the last few times. What is the problem with being direct or sensitive about it?
What can possible be constructive or beneficial about being upset about it?
Or are you enjoying the last 20 minutes? Have you learned a lot?
What is constructive or beneficial about you responding to me?
Come on. We’re both involved in this conversation.
Again, I'm not "coming after you."
You seem upset. matchst1ck isn’t upset, he’s just doing what he does. I don’t like seeing people upset unless there’s a good reason for it, so I’m suggesting that rather than thinking you’re going to argue matchst1ck into doing something other than what he does, you try not to let it bother you.

I'll admit that I'm more annoyed at you and ab03 chiming in.
He was smarter to jump out of the conversation after he said his business. I should have done the same.
OK.
You seem upset. Snark and ab03 aren’t upset, they’re just doing what they do. No...
I don’t like it when people look down their noses at people for being fans. Being a fan is fun… rooting for the Rangers is fun.
We can all acknowledge that fans have biased views and think their guys are better than they really are.
But I don’t understand the need for people to put them in their place.
Who cares what fans think? Let’s talk about what non-fans think. Plenty of non-fans think Neil Ramirez is a top 100 player.
"I became an optimist when I discovered that I wasn't going to win any more games by being anything else." by Earl Weaver
You don't like it when people are realistic?
This board very obviously overvalued Martin and Ramirez. I’ve made that argument several times and it is now being shown in this years prospect rankings. The national guys are proving my point.
You guys practically trampled me when I pointed these things out in previous threads. Why is that acceptable behavior but not acknowledging that the national guys are ranking these guys lower than we did here? I want to be excited about prospects too.
Don't be so sensitive.
Plenty of folks here have been “trampled” for holding unpopular opinions about prospects and players. I was not exactly fêted for my opinions on Andrus’ offensive potential, for example.

You should go after matchst1ck on this subject.
Not me. His sensitivity is what started this mess. He doesn’t approve realism.
The response to "don't be so sensitive"
probably shouldn’t be “why are you coming after me, go after someone else.”
I think it should be something about sand in the vag
and an “-asil” that cures such things.

Man... I missed a bunch going to a meeting.
I’m perfectly fine with realism… but that’s not what it feels like to me. To me it feels like some people want to go out of their way to say, “SEE! SEE HOW NOT GOOD THIS PROSPECT IS! YOU SHOULDN’T GET EXCITED. GETTING EXCITED IS WRONG! NOW GO WASH YOUR HANDS!”

I disagree that it was helium
if by helium you mean unwarranted excitement. Ramirez made real changes in his habits, stuff and mechanics that were well reported by scouts, organization people and prospect prognosticators. And his results then followed. That is not helium, that’s a legitimate reestablishment of top prospect status from a guy who was thought to have TORP potential by some when drafted.
There is indeed a there there.

I think if he had performed good last year in his time here there would be no talk of moving him
But the combination of his poor performance here last year, his stated uneasiness about pitching here (or anywhere other than Baltimore really), and his salary when we are currently over budget all go into it.
4 million for a middle reliever is a luxury. If that guy is lights out its easier to justify the expense. If the guy is bad (bad luck or not) and unhappy he easily becomes a likely trade candidate
And more

you can tell from his posture alone
it’s going to be a while before he’s Americanized. And Texanized…like that article said.

From ESPN.com
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Tuesday that he isn’t expecting to make some big moves any time soon. Daniels was asked about reliever Koji Uehara, who has heard his name swirling around trade talk the past week. The GM said Uehara is “a Texas Ranger” and that nothing was imminent. “This is the group we’re expecting to go forward with,” said Daniels about the 59 players on the roster. "Things can change. Every spring there are moves here and there, but we’re ready to go with this group.
Sounds good to me. Kirkman for the token lefty.

interesting...
Uehara said on Sunday that he is hoping to hear something more concrete about his future, and Daniels said that could be achieved by speaking to manager Ron Washington.
Seems sort of like the tide is turning toward Koji sticking around...
and I am glad for that.
