Yahoo Fantasy Baseball
SBN is partnering with Yahoo Sports on a campaign to raise awareness about Yahoo's Fantasy Baseball service. I started playing Fantasy Baseball in 2001 -- I still remember that magical April when I thought that my late round pick of Mark Quinn was going to lead me to the championship -- and have continued to use Yahoo for just about all of the FBL leagues I've been involved in.
So without further ado...
- Yahoo! Sports is the leading fantasy provider and home to the #1 Fantasy Baseball game available – all for free! It brings fans closer to the game and players they love with free live scoring, mock drafts, mobile apps, over 80 scoring categories, live and offline draft apps, and tools to manage your keeper league.
- Yahoo! Sports now offers the fantasy fanatic an even more competitive way to play, Pro Leagues are here! Join a Pro League for $20 or $100 and compete to win cash prizes. For those who dare to put some skin in the game.
- Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball '12 is easy and fun to play for the rookie or veteran fantasy user.
- Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball provides fans with top-notch information, resources, and expert advice.
- Yahoo! Sports provides pre-draft advice clips to help you draft the best team possible. Fantasy advice is also available throughout the season with bi-weekly video clips and weekly radio coverage on the Fantasy Freaks (every Friday 8pm-10pm ET).
- Fantasy baseball is the original social network, it is the way friends stayed connected over America’s pastime no matter where they were, Yahoo! Sports continues the tradition by letting fans talk smack talk, check'in, and chat on newly launched message boards.
- Game opens 2/9/12 – get ready to play ball!

We still going to use ESPN?
Better question for Liamp but you’ll do to start the conversation.
I was actually going to post an email about that
I want to see if Yahoo has improved keeper and draft pick trading functionality, but migrating to yahoo is something I’d like everyone to vote on.

I'm one of a few that actually like ESPN
but I’m down with whatever.
I liked the ways you can sort player stats in ESPN too
but I think Yahoo does have more options when setting up a league
Fortuitous timing
I’ve never participated in fantasy baseball but decided this off season I’d like to. But, I’ve had some question that probably pretty basic that I’ve wanted to ask.
My biggest problem is I don’t really have any friends interested in forming a league with me. So, I’m curious if services like Yahoo facilitate participation in and creation of leagues for people like me? If so, does anyone have any experience playing in leagues with random groups of people?
Thanks for any help or advice the community can provide.
You can just join a league with people you don't know.
Hell you can join 10 leagues if you want. Best way to start fantasy is to jump in head first.

Thanks. So when you start the sign up process . . .
. . . . it will give you the option to be placed in a league?
I've always played with people I don't know

Playing with strangers limits the trash talking
1/2 the fun of a league IMO. Might be a good place to learn for the first year, but lookng for a slot in an established league should be your long term goal.
Baseball's hard, guys. I mean, it really is. You can love it but, believe me, it don't always love you back. It's kind of like dating a German chick, you know?
my biggest gripe with online lgs
is that it seems like by midseasn half the lg has stopped playing.

Some guys at BBTIA are starting a new Yahoo dynasty league
rfbl@hushmail.com. It’s a dynasty league with a pretty complex scoring system and probably isn’t for noobs, but it their first year so you can get in on the ground floor. I think they’re full up on owners but not sure.

You're the one that emailed me about that.
I never replied because I didn’t know who it was.
I’m committed to picking up the first collapsed team from the SOS league.

Fantasy leagues
I would like to get into a more long term dynasty type league. Anybody have one they’d recommend?

I'd sign myself up!
I’ve played Fantasy Baseball, Football, and NBA for more than ten years with the same group of friends, but they don’t like Dinasty Leagues and I’d love to try my hand in one.
I normally use Yahoo, and it’s adequate, I guess. You can set up all sorts of options.
