Monday Morning Rangers Update

Football is done. It's officially baseball season now. That's exciting.

On that note, Jon Paul Morosi has a piece on how 2012 has the potential to be one of the greatest seasons in memory.

The DMN reports on an update from Ken Rosenthal who has the latest on Koji Uehara trade discussions. Rosenthal notes that the list of suitors for Uehara has grown and that the Oakland A's are now possibly involved.

Richard Durrett's positional outlook series moves to the mound. Durrett toes the rubber and writes about Ranger No. 1 starter Colby Lewis.

Finally, Power Rankings! Power Rankings are back. SI.com's Joe Lemire ranks baseball teams based on how powerful they are and determines that the Texas Rangers are the most powerful team in all of the baseball lands.

yes

I doubt they will – their ballpark is enough of an outlier to keep them fairly close to 500 at home. But they’ll come close.

That said, this is the first offseason of Beane’s that I actually think he did a good job in a long time. They needed to rebuild. The Gio trade was great. No need to keep Cahill or Bailey. They have shaped themselves up to be the team challenging Texas in 2-3 years when LAA collapses in a heap of old age.

LAA has only two

postion players over 28 (Pujols/Hunter) if they wise up and bench Wells. Rangers have quite a few more than that. LAA starting pitching should stay pretty productive for more than 2-3 years too.

What spot?

Not 1B. If you say OF that sends Bourjos, Trout, or Hunter to the bench. Abreu is the DH so if he DH’s, Abreu is gone. If you say 3B, his defense will be so wretched it will negate some of his offense. You can’t just magically find a spot for a guy.

That they'll score 100 fewer runs than the Rangers doesn't make them "underwhelming."

is this to me regarding Oakland?

my thought is that when a ballpark suppresses offense to a high extent you end up with more low scoring games which are more variable (individual runs are noisier than many runs and noise will push outcomes to 50/50 more than would be expected ) i have no proof of this, just a hypothesis

For all I know, nobody in a position to broadcast the video has seen it.
Look, for all we know it could be grainy footage of large tatooed white guy’s shirt and some grunting noises. But I was in the meeting when we discussed it. The guy shopping the video was definitely at the bar Monday night. I imagine the only reason it hasn’t been released yet is the price tag. (Though in our case, we wouldn’t have bit anyway — we decided acquiring something like that would be crossing the line).

The second incident in question is that Josh Hamilton went to a bathroom with a woman for 8-10 minutes while an off-duty manager blocked people from coming in. I was told by everyone I talked to that this happened, and that it was consensual. He then supposedly ran out of the bathroom, onto the patio and hurdled the fence. When he hurdled the fence multiple witnesses told me that he hit his knee on the iron fence surrounding the patio area. No one specified which knee it was. He then got in an SUV and left.

Great now he’s got a knee injury.

“It’s a caught!”

I hate The Angels so much, it's actually cramping my style. (See RevHaloFans SBN profile page)

Glad to see Lewin getting another job

…but man I wish it was with the Rangers. Getting rid of Lewin is by far the stupidest thing the Rangers have done since 2006.

We signed Kazuo Fukumori

in 2007.

If I had a gun to my head and had to pick one pitcher to pitch a game to save my life.... I'd pick 1999 Rick Helling.

Dear Rangers, Make me forget about 2010.......

that was a low dollar sign

so not really all that dumb to try to add depth. some things just don’t work out, and that is one of them.

Replacing Lewin with Rhadigan was downright stupid.
