Having the Rays' farm at #2 is a joke
as is having the Card’s farm at #4. but then again, it’s KLaw.

Too high or too low?

Rays are way too high
They probably belong in the 7-10 range. Cards ranking I can understand a bit better, but I still don’t think they are a top 5 farm.

I think both are a couple of slots to high at the most.

Reality Bites
The reality is that there is parity in the AL West, and Texas and LAA will be brawling to the end.
Get used to it – there is no runaway favorite this year.
The list has Rays farm at #2 and Cards farm at #4

Those ranking make much more sense than some of the other ones

Cards
He probably has Miller top 5-6, Carlos Martinez top 15-20, Tyrell Jenkins top 60-75 and Oscar Taveras somewhere in the last 25-30 (he really doesn’t like Taveras’ swing). I think he’d argue that he’d take that 4some over any 4 the Rangers can offer.

7. Texas Rangers
The Rangers have ranked highly the past few years — including No. 1 once — because of depth and ceiling, but they’re now more about the latter than the former. (Note that I don’t consider Yu Darvish or any player with Nippon Professional Baseball experience a “prospect” for the purpose of this ranking or the top 100.)

I thought we had plenty of depth
Just no MLB ready stars. Our highest prospects were just in low A, while our Martins struggled in AAA. I think good showings and advancements into the high minors will vault us up into the top 3 again next year pending promotions to the majors and steps forward from our low minor guys.

3 of our top 5 prospects are in AAA
Olt will likely start in AA, and Profar is the Son of Judeska and Chesmond.
and we do have lots of depth.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.
Ramirez, Perez, and Martin are not quite ML ready
I think/hope that by the middle-end of this year they will be. If they don’t lose their rookie status by the end of this year I think the Rangers will again fall in the top 3. Hoping to see some advancement from the second half of our top 10 too.

As if often the case,
the guys in AAA don’t quite have the ceiling.

Nothing wrong with tilting toward ceiling when the ML team has significant depth.
Ceiling can be traded for ML depth; and, it’s impossible to get homegrown stars without depth.
If the emphasis on ceiling is intentional — it appears so — it seems smart to me.
Everybody needs somebody to love... I need Yu, Yu, Yu! I need Yu, Yu, Yu!
I hope I haven't offended the Blues Brothers with this.
I think we have both depth and ceiling
what we don’t have is ceiling with proximity. I guess that’s what KLaw was trying to say
KLaw doesn't put as much emphasis on complex talent, I believe.
He’s a little like Sickels in that players really come on his radar in A leagues. If that’s the case, then this ranking makes more sense.
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
Where does Houston rank?

Between 26 and 28.

yeah
I was just going to say. Think about Texas circa 2005, 2006.
Go Rice Owls!
Would be a Matt Harrison fan, but I only like superstars
no
but it was about as helpless feeling to watch. Seriously… the Jason Botts / Sammy Sosa debacle was the lowest point in this organization’s history. Jason Botts! When people care about Jason Botts, that tells you how hopeless everything is…

The 2007 trade deadline was the moment I stopped feeling hopeless.
I remember being really sad about the idea of losing Teixeira, even if he was one of my least favorite Rangers. Then everyone was all gaga over the haul, so I realized I needed to learn more about prospects.
The glowing reviews of what the Rangers had landed in that set of trades, and the ensuing cheers for their farm system made me take notice.
SB Nation Dallas-Ft. Worth - Christopher Fittz is better than porn!

Didn't you hear?
The Astros signed Jack Cust. He’s going to solve all their issues!
And Jason Castro has gotten off to an early start getting his injury out of the way.
Add into the mix some peanut butter cups and there’s only one thing left to do…win the whole fucking thing.
/that said, I’m still considering a 14-game package…

Of all the teams in the league
They have to be the worst at every level, from the ML roster to the A ball. The only really good thing you can say is, they’re not too held down by huge unproductive contracts. At some point, Carlos Lee will go back to his ranch.
I have doubts about their new owner too, and whether any good GM is going to want to go there. I feel sorry for their fans, because they are so deep in the tunnel, and I don’t know if there is any light up ahead. Someday they have to turn around, but it’ll be nice to have another AL West AAA team to play for many many years.
Baseball's hard, guys. I mean, it really is. You can love it but, believe me, it don't always love you back. It's kind of like dating a German chick, you know?
Do they have money?
I guess it doesn’t matter. You can’t buy 25 guys in one offseason

There really should be an asterik for the whole article
That says, “in the end, we don’t really know”. Until they hit the show and produce, it’s just speculation. There are too many “can’t miss prospects” that miss for me to put a lot of stock in minor league reports. I think it’s easier to label a farm system as weak, but above that, it’s more and more just speculation.

not really
if your players don’t pan out via trade, some teams aren’t likely to deal with you or you may get the reputation of having overrated players etc, but if you are rated a bit lower than you should be and you develop well, I’d imagine your players would gain more stock that way. Either way, around the top 5 – 7 in the league is quite good, the best in the west still, so we are the best team now, and are looking to stay on top in the future. I like it
