Keith Law's top 10 Rangers prospects
Several surprises after the top four (who all crack his top 100 list), including Robbie Ross coming in at #5.

I don't think that's all that surprising
I think Machado is generally viewed as slightly better of a prospect than Profar.

I really like this race.
A draft guy versus a latin guy. Manny is older by less than a year. Similar development so far although Manny might be slightly ahead.
I assume he's ahead in development too
but not positive. Do people grade Profar on a curve because of his (slight) age advantage?
Machado has half a season of advanced A ball experience
Profar never got promoted out of mid-A. That is the reason I say Machado is probably slightly ahead. You could say the difference in age makes it a wash.
It's all speculation until they prove it in The Show
That’s why all these rankings are so dumb.
Football can go to hell. The Rangers aren't ready for football season and neither am I.

We're all going to sit back and laugh in 2016
When the Rangers are starting Profar and Machado up the middle.
You mean when Machado is at 3B.

Except we saw reference to Profar being the best shortstop prospect in baseball in an article you linked yesterday
Unless that comment was made by Law
I don’t understand why that would contract AJM’s statement. He said generally viewed, not unanimously.
Meant to say contradict. Whoops.
And I don’t think your anecdotal evidence is enough to support your claim that he is wrong. It is just his general opinion anyways. What’s the big deal?
I wouldnt say generally.
I’ve seen it split. I feel like that I’ve seen more Profar as “best shortstop prospect” than Machado this winter. In part because many aren’t sure Machado sticks at short.
In one of their recent BP podcasts, Goldstein and Parks were talking about SS prospects sticking in reference to Bogaerts and Machado and Goldstein said he thought there was a about a 50% chance of Machado sticking. Then he made the point (which said will probably overrule his previous one) that pretty much anytime you even here whispers of a prospect being moved… they almost always get moved.

Mayo of the MLB.com thought Machado was a better SS prospect than Profar too.

Not yet.
He’ll post it when his team-by-team rankings are done.

Really
the most interesting thing about Machado’s ranking is not that it’s higher than Profar, it’s that it is higher in relation to the rest of the league. Definitely had not seen Machado this high. Right after the big 3.
Well it's KLaw
This is a guy that ranks Hak-Ju Lee at 12. I usually don’t take KLaws rankings seriously.

May I ask why?
He’s one of the most respected names in the industry, worked in the Toronto front office for a number of years, and was recently offered another front office position with the Astros that he turned down.

Per Robothal
Rangers and OF Nelson Cruz avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year, $16 million contract.

It looks like the deal also includes incentives
Which makes sense because the $16MM figure looks a little low to me.
It's not all that low really
The midpoint between both of their numbers for arbitration this season was 6.5M, take that, then they essentially increase next season to 9.5M. That’s pretty reasonable plus he can make more depending on the incentives.
A baseball game is simply a nervous breakdown divided into nine innings.

I saw Ross at #5 and decided that it wasn’t worth my time.
I hate The Angels so much, it's actually cramping my style. (See RevHaloFans SBN profile page)
