The Return of Andres Blanco? (Apparently not)

The Rangers' utility infielder the past two seasons has been Andres Blanco. After injuries sidelined him at the end of 2011, however, and with arbitration looming, the Rangers cut him loose, and he signed a minor league deal with the Washington Nationals.

However, Blanco won't be making the Nationals' roster, and Gerry Fraley writes that Blanco could opt out of his deal, at which point he could potentially end up returning to the Rangers, where none of his potential replacements have done anything to seize the utility infielder job.

Blanco was well-suited for the role the Rangers needed him for, and if he is healthy, it wouldn't surprise me at all if he ended up back in Texas.

UPDATE -- Evan Grant says Rangers officials don't think Blanco would represent an upgrade over the in-house options for UIF.
