During bunt practices on Sunday, Yu Darvish let slip the word “F**k” when his bunt attempt down the first base line rolled into foul territory. He also took eleven swings during batting practice and collected four could-be hits.

Home Run bits are nothing new
When I went to my first Cardinals game in 1962, the old Sportman’s Park/Busch Stadium I scoreboard had a neon Cardinal bird that would fly around the scoreboard and the Anheuser Bush eagle would flap its wings. The next year they added the sound of Cardinal chirping on home runs.
You can’t get away with it today, but our long time PR guy before John Blake, Burt Hawkins told me back in 1983 when I first came to Texas, “Chuck, buddy boy, the home run should stand on its own, it doesn’t need any theatrics, the player should round the bases and the fans should stand and applaud this great feat.” For awhile, we did that, but it is way too old school in today’s world.
We added home run fireworks for playoff games in 96, 98 and 99. Even had a shot for foul ball HR in 1996, then on the next pitch Igor hit one for real.
Then when ownership changed they wanted fireworks all the time.
But LSJ, home run gimmicks have been around for a long time, technology has made them a little more “trendy”.
