Cody Eppley designated for assignment, Yoshinori Tateyama put on the d.l.

Needing to open a spot on the 40 man roster with the additions of Robbie Ross and Alberto Gonzalez to the roster, the Rangers have designated sidearming righthander Cody Eppley for assignment.

Eppley appear in 9 innings over a 10 game span with the Rangers last year, but was generally seen as a fringey specialist. Like Darren O'Day, another righty sidearmer who the Rangers dealt in the offseason, Eppley was something of a victim of numbers in terms of the roster and bullpen situation, as well as given his being limited to primarily a ROOGY role.

The Rangers could feel that they can sneak Eppley through waivers right now, with many teams having their rosters finalized and full, and if so, he'll likely be assigned to AAA Round Rock.

In addition, Yoshinori Tateyama has been placed on the fifteen day disabled list. There was some question as to whether he was going to be optioned or put on the d.l. He will most likely end up going to Round Rock for a rehab assignment before too long.
