According to various reports on Twitter, the Chicago Cubs have reportedly signed 20 year old outfielder and Cuban defector Jorge Soler.
Soler, who defected from Cuba last year, is a big, power-hitting outfielder with a big arm who is seen as being a few years away from contributing in the major leagues, but is considered a potential impact talent. He was expected to command a deal in the $25 million range.
More details as they become available.
UPDATE -- Jon Heyman is saying that the deal is 9 years for around $30 million.
UPDATE II -- Ken Rosenthal has a writeup on the deal, and says that Soler has the right to opt-out of the financial parameters when he's arbitration eligible. So, for example, if he's arb-eligible in 2017, and thinks he can make more money then than what he's guaranteed under this deal, he can opt-out, still be Cubs property, but make more money via arbitration.
